Seems scientifically plausible that it "could" - but, would you want it too? A lot of people look to food for more than just the nutritional content and from that angle it seems pretty unspeakably monotonous.

EATING....is arguably mankind's greatest pleasure. The only thing we do that is enjoyable three times a day from birth until death.

Someone named a food product Soylent? ... creepy

As an aside it's not hard to make a product like this that provides everything you need. I've done it for mice. It won't hurt you. Of course you would get tired of it pretty fast no matter how good it was at first.

Kinda goofy how big a deal it seems to be on the intardnets. As to the OP's Question.. can it replace Food.. duh. It is food. Hell you can keep a person alive intravenously and just bypass the digestive process if you wish.

Donini makes a key point however as to why people are not interested in these things much.

Yea, as I choked down my third Hammer Gel on yesterday's ride, the pull of the cheeseburger became stronger; Soylent would not have drawn me home.
