It was early June '06 and my two buddies and I had just spent our third night on Lurking Fear at Thanksgiving ledge. Jaymz was belaying Dennis on the 2nd to last pitch while I went exploring on Thanksgiving. I had walked about 150' along the ledge when I saw a scrappy looking dirtbag appear from around a corner just ahead of me. I had read many of PTPP's articles and trip reports and had seen pics of him as well. At first I didn't have a clue who it was, but as I got closer I recognized him immediately. I stuck out my hand, said "Hi Pass Pitons Pete Zabrok I'm Doug from Ottawa." It was fun to quote some of his articles to him and shoot the breeze while hanging out on a sunny ledge on El Cap. Pete was, of course, just finishing up on his 29th ascent of the Captain! He had been on Dihedral for 11 days and was proud to announce that he had consumed a fine bottle of Shiraz the night before. The boy does live in style on a wall. It was totally classic to run into Pete on Thanksgiving and also to share some beers later that week. I'll see you next time I'm in the Valley. Does anyone else out there have a story of where and when they first ran into "PTPP?"

Cheers,

Doug

Reminds me of when I ran into that clown in an Abercrombie shirt wearing gloves that looked like they'd seen about 2,000 pitches, give or take 1,997.

Hasn't happened.... but.... I was on El Cap bridge and this really dirty skinny guy walked by carrying a big asss haul bag. Since it was knott a FISH bag, I simply let him stagger on by instead of carrying it for him. I hear later that was PTPP in the flesh.

But... the day I met BRINGMEDEATH!!!!!! HOLY COW!!!! Now that was some kick assss™™™ fun. 1st Annual ST Shiit Talkers Fest.. and he did not disappoint! Was that the same day I watched PTPP walk past?? hmmmm... yeah I'm senile.... naw... couldn't have been or we would have brought him over and talked massive shiit with him at the fest.

September 11th, a few years back. Turns out to be Pete's birthday and he's just off El Cap so I offer to cook him dinner. He drives his friend's two wheel drive truck down my driveway. Big mistake! It was a weekend or something and he had to beg AAA, using the birthday rap and everything, to tow this truck out of my A3+ vertical dirt driveway that's definately 4Wd.

Peace

Too funny! I'm walking along Thanksgiving Ledge, not having seen anyone except Cybele for two weeks, I turn a corner, and this dude calls me by name!

It was great hanging out with you Hosers, eh? Like, we shall have to do it again sometime soon.

Karl, you're a great cook! Man, what a great birthday meal that was. Yeah, it wasn't the smartest move to drive that 2WD pick-me-up down Karl's super-steep driveway.

Here are a few pix of how we got it out:

He can get up El Cap,, but cant make it up the drive way. Great pics. Did you try taking 10 or 12 pounds of pressure out of the back tires? Works sometimes, but you need an airpump at the top.
