I am having a hard time finding info on BLM lands around JT. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I would like to camp somewhere in the northeast area either off of rice road or the 62, somewhere within spitting distance of the coxcombs.

yeah I have camped there before....kind of sucks. Found some really old abandon vehicles in the wash back in there.

Thanks for the try though, I do appreciate it. Anything east of there that is BLM? Hoping to be close to the far NE corner of the park

I've spent nights out there just off 62. There are some spots both north and south of the highway right about where it crosses the north end of the Coxcombs. Can't remember specific directions, but they're not really needed, because just cruising east on 62 spots will become apparent. If you want to be miles from the highway there is a well-graded road that heads north into the Cadiz Valley along the west side. I bet most of this will show up well in Google Earth.

Why does it matter as long as you're not outgunned?

Here's a link to a Dropbox file with two versions (low & high resolution) of the 100K BLM Sheep Hole Mountains map. Those maps show BLM and other public lands. Let me know if you need the adjoining maps as well.

I remembered wilderness.net has a pretty sweet interactive map showing wilderness areas. So now this thread is obsolete. Big area north of the 62 is BLM. Bitchin'. If I could make drugs I would make LSD. But I can't. So I won't. I will just hang out in the desert. Sober.

Why not just stay at the Pit? Or are you meaning something more like homesteading when you say "camping?"

Or just do backcountry camping in the park?
