Physical threats from folks on this forum have a hollow ring to me.

Yes, Jim, this is the intardnet. Many years ago a neighbor who was a meth
head threatened me and the nice policeman said that if he wasn't specific
about the means then there was nothing they could do.

"I'll be dropping by" & "I'm gonna enjoy that" are now considered physical threats???

Why is he getting away with making physical threats and using people's names?

I can't say anything about physical threats, but maybe he's "getting away" with using people's real names for the same reason you're "getting away" with writing whatever you write here -- there's no rule against it.

I kinda doubt you will get the point of this, but there's a slight chance I suppose--it never hurts to try.

I can't say that I've ever seen Ron threaten anybody physically.
It seems to me he's the one that others start in on first just because
they don't share his opinion. Wasn't that what third grade was all about?
I suppose I am guilty of not paying enough attention to the drama.

I always thought this was a "friendly" forum? Not.

Ron Anderson, donini, Ed Hartouni and several others don't hide behind the veil of anonymity. They speak their minds freely, and often catch a loadashit for so doing.

I don't hide behind my Super Topo name, since I've freely signed my real name to many of the posts I've made in the past; neither do I make meaningless threats of violence to others.

Many here need to simply "grow up and get a life."

Interesting how Ron hasn't chimed in on this one yet.

No doubt he's penning an articulate, respectful response.

As annoying as Ron can be I think we all know that was an empty threat.

Besides, apogee would wreck him. Lol.

I hear you Ricardo Choeksondik, it's not fair that guys like you who use their entire real name & really get into the climbing content have to get alienated. Especially since you have only ever posted 9 times, this place could be way more welcoming for sure Ricardo Choeksondik. What background is Choeksondik anyways? Ricardo sounds Latin but I'm having a HARD time trying to figure out what Choeksondik is??

I don't get you people.

First you call names and insult a person. then you complain he is pissed and fights back.

Reilly is right, grow up!

CMac is so hands off it takes an advertiser pulling a campaign to get him to act.

I don't personally agree with the level of non-moderation he employs with this site, but I do understand how difficult the moderation thing is. First you have to have people who actually cover the content consistently, and the days of it "being reward enough" to volunteer as a mod on a website are long gone. There's got to be more benefit. Then, you have to find mods who are actually level-headed, unbiased and can take the actions in a way that doesn't make things worse.

As for posting people's names - agreed, that is standard low class behavior. No MATTER if the named is being an (*).

Threats - even veiled ones - are also something that should not be tolerated. I still get sickened when I remember some (*) posting in a thread(on rc.com) that if they had the chance they would throw Teddy off the cliff. They didn't post that directed to me, but I saw it. Didn't matter if they were talking smack or what. Just as it doesn't matter if it was smack when RA made the insinuation that is included upthread.

“When considering the truth of a proposition, one is either engaged in an honest appraisal of the evidence and logical arguments, or one isn't.
“If someone doesn’t value evidence, what evidence are you going to provide that proves they should value evidence.
If someone doesn’t value logic, what logical argument would you invoke to prove they should value logic?”
― Sam Harris
I try and abide by these ideas. Hence I rarely, if ever, get caught up in the ad hominem attacks and arguments, charactor assanitation and general bullshit that insues on threads like the climate change and left vs right ect. I learn very little, other than how mean some of these folks seem to be. If they behaved that way in person I would not spend time around them. The net is a time thief anyway: why waste more time with these cyber bullies and aholes?Sometimes I wish Chris would divid the forum into climbing and non climbing. But in the end, it's easy to avoid non-climbing threads. My two cents...
