Anyone following it? Opening ceremonies were yesterday. I have a friend from Ouray, Heidi Jo Duce, that is competing in the snowboardcross for athletes with lower leg disabilities (she, and her teammates are not 'disabled' at all). If you have ever gassed up in Ouray, then there is a 50/50 chance you bought it from her dad, they own the service station. Very much deeply seated locals and with no corporate sponsors. Very good people. Very cool. I think they just named a holiday after her in Ouray. Heidi Jo Duce Day. Awesome.
Pretty amazing what has been happening lately, what with a para-palegic going up Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride, anything Chad Jukes (GIMPS ON ICE!) does or Pete Davis and what he has been doing with Paradox Sports. Incredible people out there getting after it, and good on them too. So if you have the time, watch and cheer on some bad asses do bad ass things. They deserve the coverage!

Angela and I know all three. It's frickin amazing what people can do with disabilities that would reduce me to a TV watching, beer swilling couch lizard.

Between the Olympics and the Parlympics the Russians invaded Crimea. Does anyone else remember what happened that last time the Olympics were in Russia and they invaded a country? Is it best to keep politics out of sport or should there have been a boycott?

Jim,
I am just posing the question. I ran the Special Olympics for Boulder County(CO) for years. Not exactly the same as the Paralympics, but along the same lines.

The only people who suffered from 1980 (and 1982) boycott were the athletes who missed their once in a life time chance. None else have noticed.
