I have a business trip to Beijing next week.
Does anyone have any beta or contacts there for weekend climbing?
I believe there are a few gyms in town and crags within 2 hours.
And of course the Great Wall... but seriously...
Thanks!

I have no idea but suspect that an hour after climbing you are likely to want to climb again.

They is some nice granite climbing about an hour and half outside of Beijing by public transportation. I'm sure you can hire a car and driver to make life easier and the trip faster.
On yahoo, they is a Shanghai climbing group that is very active. A lot of those guys are based in Beijin and can be pretty helpful.
on my trip there, I climb with a Chinese guy. The area had a sport climbing wall road side, and some cliffs with two pitch routes. (Some took gear.)
We also did a wonderful 5.11+ flared chimney that led to two bolts. While leading it, I puked in my mouth at least three times. My partner was less considerate and puked in the chimney for the next party to enjoy.
I wish I still had some contact there for you.

I've climbed a couple of times at Baihe, out past MiYun, both below the road (at the river, top left in the little photo-topo in the Climb Dali link) and above it (bottom right in the same topo I think).
It's not Tuolumne, but it is good - some of the most fun climbing I have had in the PRC - and the potential looks enormous. A lot of what is bolted shouldn't be. Conversely a lot of the bolts don't really inspire confidence. I seem to remember placing a few pieces on most routes. This is a few years back however.
Going on your own - we have encountered friendly locals who were keen to hook up, so shoes & harness are definitely worth taking. Worst case hiking arund the area loking for the climbing is quite fun.
No contacts and not likely to be up in Beijing myself for a while, so no concrete help there I'm afraid.
I've got a PDF - very limited but in English - send / post an e-mail address and I'll fwd.

take some body guards with you if you leave your hotel,
and have some ransom money tucked away at a pre-determined location,
100,000 yen should cover it,
if you see two dudes on a moped wearing bootleg Ray Bans, make a run for it,
oh, and one other thing...
YOUR GONNA DIE!
