"If I lived in Buffalo, I'd write about Buffalo."
Elmore Leonard has been called "the Dickens of Detroit." He lived and died in Birmingham, MI.

He was in the middle of a manuscript entitled "Blue Dreams," to be finished by his son, reportedly.
Locker's in the middle of a manuscript entittled "Glue Dreams."

Final chapter for the creator of Chili Palmer?
I doubt that.

All the best in your new life, Dutch.

I have that list on my desktop. Wish I had been taught the notions behind that list when I was an undergrad. It would have helped a lot!

I disagree with most of Leanords points.

I prefer novels that are rich with detail, rather than those that trade cheesy one-liners for thoughtful writing.

I'm more into context than dialogue.

RIP nonetheless.

I don't think the man was suggesting that you toss anything in favor of "cheesy one liners." The artistry of Leonard's work is in the naturalness of the dialogue. You find yourself part of a conversation, rather than admiring the landscape from afar.

He's playing poker with Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett now.

And they're all going to lose to James Cain.

His injunction against adverbs is the same as the proscription of them by Ambrose Bierce.

His verbiage was spare, his descriptions terse, and his humor timely.
