I would like find a beach vacation spot that has bouldering and fun beaches for kids with swimming and maybe some surfing.
Any thoughts?

OB is definitely not a beach for kiddie swimming, unless you happen on just the right currents and wave conditions (rare). Surf can be awesome, though not often in the summer. But that's true northwards too.
The Russian River idea is much better than SF, at least if the bouldering is enough for you. If it's cold at the coast you can drive inland a bit, rent a canoe & have a fun rest day drifting. And you're within striking distance of all the Pt. Reyes/Tomales Bay stuff. Very nice kiddie beach (Heart's Desire Beach) at Tomales Bay State Park...
And you wouldn't be so far from Stinson Beach which is both a nice beach and fun bouldering spot.

Goat Rock is a fun little spot in Bodega Bay. Fairly close to a surf spot called Salmon Creek. I would not recommend that young children go too far out into the surf due to the fast currents and pretty hairy rips. If the surf is mellow enough it might be a good call, but be careful, conditions at beach breaks like that can change in a matter of seconds. Goat rock as a few fun boulder problems on some beautiful (and sharp) rock. A few of the intended TRs double for some fun highballs.

Check out Trinidad - surfing at moonstone and Houda point, bouldering and tr'ing at the former, swimming for the kids at little river.
