Dios Mio!
I love that alp! It makes me nervous, but I love the screaming fans that part at the last second to let the riders through.
Truly a sporting anomaly, and I bet we see the end of it in our lifetime.

As a guide for one of the Tour de France VIP tours, I will be riding that stage the same say as the race. No doubt an early start will be required! There is a lot of steep climbing on the Izoard and of course, Alpe d'Huez is no picnic though it lessens a bit in steepness after the first 3km.

ps - the Etape du Tour will also be riding that stage on Monday, July 10th.

bhilden, you are lucky that would be a blast, lots of work but fun. A couple of year back a buddy of min rode the Etape du Tour, that year it was on the stage that Tylor Hmailton won with broken color bone. He was suprised how seriouly the people take thier riding over. The medical tents at the end of the ride were full of people. Jeff

Yeah, the Etape du Tour is crazy! I rode it as a guide last year and was amazed how seriously everyone, not just the really fast riders, take the event. Definitely an experience!
Bruce
ps - there is almost 13,000' of climbing in the stage from Gap to l'Alpe d'Huez.

Sir Lancelot, if he can kick the habit along with Barry Bonds, Kelly White, Tyler Hamilton, Mary Decker-Slaney, Carl Lewis et al. Ask Frankie Andreu, he knows the score! And to think that for all these years you have been pointing fingers at the East Germans...tut,tut.
