I have an idea in which I would be having the public post entries on a page in one of my websites, and need some suggestions on how to make this work.

The concept is similar to the Where's George concept, seen here:
http://www.wheresgeorge.com/wild.php

For my purposes, I would have items which would be located serendipitously by people, which include an information tag explaining the item is a gift as part of a promotion. I would be asking them to go to the web page and post their finding, along with a comment.

The items would have a code number and I am thinking it would be good if, when the person enters the code, a form opens up with an image of the item, and a comment section.

I am on Wordpress, and would like the page integrated, and not a separate link. I am also NOT the greatest with coding, so am hoping there might be a plug in which could be used.

Any advice, besides that I'm gonna die?

Another bump... I have set up a very basic version of this, but would love to have a little more sophisticated version.

As it is, I simply have a blog post dedicated to the project, in which people can leave a comment.

What I would like, is for people to enter a code number to participate(with that number linked to a database for administrative purposes). Then a page would open where they could fill out a form, which would become the latest entry in a continuum.

The previously filled out forms would be visible to all. I would also like to design the page so that an image associated with the code number loads in the form.

Any suggestions of Wordpress PlugIns that people think might be capable of handling this would be great. I will also post to the WP forums for help, but in the past, whenever I have had a question, the Supertopo people have at least been able to tell me whether it is electrical or fuel related....Maybe this one is more complicated - but thanks anyway!

Qitnl - Thanks for the reply. I guess I had better start searching the PlugIns and see what I can find. I don't think I can do it from scratch, since I get flummoxed by creating a database in a database program.

GDavis - Thanks, that was hlpful....

actually.... except for the "start from code number" this plugin may do it - http://www.talismanshops.com/wp-admin/plugin-install.php?tab=plugin-information&plugin=participants-database&TB_iframe=true&width=600&height=550

I guess tomorrow I had better get to work. I need to finalize the inserts that will go along with these items, so I can print them up and that needs to be done before Monday, when I plan to head out from JT.

Double Edit - It looks like the thing does have a way to start from a code number, instead of asking for a name or email... Maybe this will work!

I am starting with a batch of 100, and if the promotion seems to be paying off, will continue it and expand. I'm always hopeful when I have an idea, and then disappointed when a lot of effort produces small results. But this idea...if I can get it to work and get some viral exposure coming from it, could be a good one.

That's why I want to do my best to have a professional presentation when people take the action I am suggesting. But I suppose I had better be able to easily manage easily whatever I decide.
