I think the West Gully is the easiest - it was done in the early 1900s, I think. One FA team member died en route as I recall reading. I'd love to hear some current beta on it.

Tamarack Flat trail is the easiest route to the top, but because of the rolling nature of the trail, the Falls Trail is the easiest descent. An El Cap traverse suggests itself!

If you are familiar placing gear, the Nose can be done with a pack if you like suffering while jugging. But first check out the Fish website for cheap haul bags. No need for a poratledge on the Nose plenty of ledges. A little suffering goes a long way. have fun

ha! Tamarack Flat trail, that's funny Brutus!
my 2 cents: if you don't have a haulbag, portaledge or much aid experience El Cap might be a big undertaking. There ain't much quick/easy about the big stone...

The (very) old East Ledges route is between 5.6 and 5.8 and I'd guess requires some pretty good route finding skills.

How difficult would it be to ascend the East Ledges?
As easy as jugging a few fixed lines.
All the raps were fixed when I descended the east ledges a month ago. A couple guys actually went up the E.Ledges while we descended to go work the upper pitches of the Salathe... pretty wild place to go cragging!
