hey there say,all...

this newer computer has those 'sideways' load the disc deals...

on some occasions the disc that i put in there, trigger the computer to
pop-up a window and then, i pick which way to view the files...

well--a few times a disc--and one that i HAD used and seen the files, etc, WILL NOT PUP-UP... and i can NOT EVEN OPEN it from the computer window
of 'pick what you want'etc...

i can hear the engine like it is tryng, though... but no go...
the 'disc light' has lit up, though...

does anyone know what's up???
please?

when i put files on the disc, i ejected it proper so they'd save, etc...
it formatted firs, and like i said, i had seen the files on it...

are these sideways 'load in' things defected or fussy?
when i put the disc in flat, if i recollect rightly,
i never had that trouble...

thanks--sorry to bug you all, but i realy
needed the files... some are on other discs, but a few are not...

By "disc" you mean CD/DVD? What does the label on the box say?

hey there say, froodish...

the only caution was this, on the back, at the very bottom:
may not be compatible with drives recording at 1X speed...

hey neebee,
try flipping the computer on its side, so the CD is horizontal. i might not understand what you are saying, but see if that makes any difference.

Usually, if an optical disc won't read (the whirring, clicking sounds, but not mounting) it means one or more of the following:

* the disc is dirty or scratched
* the media on the disc is failing
* the optical drive is failing

I'd first take a good look at the disc and make sure there were not any scratches. If that looks good, try cleaning the (bottom) disc with a soft cloth. Wipe in circles (just like if the cloth were a record player needle).

You could also try it in another optical drive if you have access to one. Sometimes, esp. with marginal discs, one drive may read what another fails to.

In any event, if you manage to read it, I'd move the files off onto fresh media ASAP. Note that CDR's/DVDR's do have a shelf life (esp. before burning).

I could also be that the optical drive has gotten dirty. Sometimes a blast of compressed air will chase the dust bunnies out and fix things up.

Sounds as well as you were sequentially writing to these without "closing" the session. I never trust that. When I burn a disc, I finish it. That said I really don't trust optical media these days for anything important. At the very least, good to have a second copy on another CD media.

Good luck!

hey there say, froodish... i now suspect the opticle... as there has been dust lately, had not seen this before... collecting nearby ...
(must be bad housekeeping this month) :O

and too, at first, i did not realize that i had to 'eject' proper and not just push the button...

but i was thinking i HAD by the time i got to this one...
i DID take info off of one, as well, and redid (cause it did this very same thing)...

perhaps a mess of stuff is wrong these--they were the cheaper ones and thus, they may have been on the shelf too long--did not understand that...
:(

okay... will keep trying to read it and try on the old computer that i use for my jake-ranch stories...

thanks guys... all that chipped in, as well...
:)

sideways, still not read it, but it DOES now show that there are files on it...so they took... but can't be 'taken' i reckon :(

If worse comes to worst, you can get an external disc drive that will work.

Amazon has one for less than $25:

I have an old computer I'm nursing along, and it needs one of those to read discs. The reason I keep that old computer around is it's the only one I have that will work with my old printer, which I keep around only because I have a bunch of ink for it ( and ink's expensive! ).
