We do have some liberal war-hawks (Lieberman).
In a recent discussion I proffered the opinion that vegetarianism is a political descision. I was told my head was located in my duodenum. Yet, I cannot think of too many of those that eat from the right side of the plate, so to speak, not liking to tear their incisors into animal flesh.
Is Vegetarianism a left-wing phenomena? Any right-wing, Lacto-ovos here?

Right wing? Well, no.
But if you include people who have some sentiment to conservative thinking along these lines below, then yes.
As a conservative, I --
--Have an appreciation of the familiar
--Have a preference for what has grown up over a long time, rather than what is created deliberately or quickly
--Am hostile to strong social change by the state to achieve utopias
--Believe that humans change slowly to fit shifting situations
--Don’t believe in the brilliance of a few men to engineer effective change
--Think that human affairs are exceedingly complicated and unpredictable
--Doubt that either science or government has the ability to solve man’s problems
--Believe that the important changes in men and societies only come from moral and spiritual self-knowledge
I have been a vegetarian for 20+ years. Is there some incongruence in that?

A lot of Seventh Day Adventists are vegetarians (don't know if they do Vegan) as well as plenty of Hindus and Buddhists (again, maybe not vegan)
So I'd have to expect plenty of conservative vegetarians.
But there certainly is a model for becoming vegan which is based on making a personal sacrifice for the sake of easing the suffering of other beings and the environment. Despite the fact that Jesus has been hijacked by conservatives, that attitude is often associated with the left these days.
Now that we have a big-buck-spending, meddling-in-our-personal-affairs. and nation-building conservative government, the question I'm wondering about is this:
"Are there any conservative conservatives? or does it mean something else now?"

I'd say you're right, Karl. I think both conservatism and liberalism have been hijacked by pandering politicans. Conservatism and liberalism are not what the polls say they are. We are in need of people who will stand still. We are in need of people with integrity.
I've said this before somewehere here, but democracy is not turning out as our founders had hoped. Tocqueville made that clear long ago. When our beliefs rely upon a general consensus that changes with our current feelings, then the kind of people we become regresses to the mean. We stand for very little but ourselves.

Karl, your reply is articulate, but I made the mistake in opening the door beyonf current American politicking. Either way, you posited some interesting concepts and something to think about, but I still feel certain that in the US, vegetarianism is a political decision, and not much more.

Hitler was a total right winger
Stalin and Mao were leftists though
So you have a genocide class at both ends of the political-dictator spectrum

At either end of the political spectrum there is a genocide class.
I'm not sure this right/left stuff really translates well to world politics.
