What's the craziest Jury Rig or Repair you ever did, a la MacGyver, on a big wall, alpine climb or whatever?

So far, mine was replacing the trigger wires on my #3 Friend with dental floss/Prusik knots on Cannon's Fruit Cup Wall.

I'd be satisfied with an explanation of the differences between "jury-rig" and "jerry-rig".

Carpetbaggers vs. Grateful Dead?

and what about Rube Goldberg

This could actually be the most interesting thread in ages.

I recall Leversee, Sampson, et al on the Tangerine Trip having to use a file to create a nut wrench while on route for the hex nuts on the bolt ladders.

On Kerkoff Dome, we found 3 cams laying in a crack behind a ledge that were mineralized to where they would not work (spring-out). We subsequently decided to bail as the previous party from this spot. We used sunscreen to lube these guys up so we didn't have to leave any of our rack.

While waay up on El Cap, Leversee dropped one wall boot. With some of the foam pad from the haul bag & duct tape, the 'Robo Boot' was born. Unable to fathom rappelling back to earth alone with an 11mm & 5.5 Spectra line, he convinced us to bail...LOL.

I'm sure there's many more I cannot think of...

Used a No. 11 hex for a piton hammer. The hex was not amused.

Once fixed a broken distributor rotor with a snake bite kit - got the folks forty mile back to town.
