I've checked these spires out from a bunch of different locations, but just got up close to them yesterday. These are at the head of Box Canyon in the Roaring River drainage of Kings Canyon Nat'l Park. We approached from the Tablelands up near Pear Lake in Sequoia.
Does anyone know the name of these spires and if they've ever been climbed? I figuresomeone like Fred Beckey has probably been out there, but I've never really heard anyone ever talk about them. I assumed the bigger one is about 1 pitch from the crotch between the spires.

So your picture is looking more or less north, towards the south fork of the Kings?
Man I've heard some horror stories about the rugged terrain down in that Roaring River drainage...

Yeah, this is looking north. You can see Goddard in the background on the left side, and between the two spires are the Pallisades, I believe.

Here's another angle on the spires. Lots of cracks and features to climb, and perhaps a few loose blocks in there!

A buddy of mine told me that when he was a ranger at nearby Ranger Lakes, an Outward Bound group would climb the smaller spire on the right, calling it Kangaroo Rock.
