On a recent trip to the UK I got to watch the isle of man TT races. On flight back to USA the was a documentary on the event called closer to the edge. I always knew that the TT was special but you really have to see the track and the onboard cameras to realize how nuts these guys are.

This is a road race time trial with 10 second intervals on a long 38mile circuit around the islands residential areas and mountain roads at average speed of over 130 mph. No run offs. No sand traps. No tire barriers. Lots of bumps, curbs, manhole covers, street signs, and stone walls. Several deaths and maimings each year. So dangerous that many circuit riders refuse to race it these days, causing it to lose its status on the points competitions.

Check out some of the great clips on YouTube (look up TT closer to the edge and related vids).

25mph hairpin corners and 200mph straights over a
38 mile road circuit give an average speed of 131mph.

WARNING: DO NOT RIDE YOUR BIKE AFTER VIEWING THESE CLIPS

Guy Martin has become a bit of a celeb back in the UK on the back of this documentary. Known only to petrolheads and fans of roadracing in particular, he got his own tv show:

"In March 2011 BBC One broadcast the educational documentary series "The Boat that Guy Built." In the show Martin along with his childhood pal "Mavis" (Mark Davis) renovate a narrow boat, Reckless, travelling on the canal network using the inventions of the Industrial Revolution. The programme involves reconstructions of early industrial processes such as smelting iron."

He is currently filming another one titled "Guy martin Building Britain".

Martin featured in a program last night on UK TV, mainly about Danny Mac Ascill but looking at other high risk activities; Motorcycle racing, base jumping and leashed Highlining featured. The first two had real danger, but leashed highlining.....

I'd seen him (Martin) on the engineering program and not being a bike geek wondered why he was a presenter, now I know!

The TT footage is mental!

A racers race -- the best of the best.
So dangerous that all factory riders contracts prevent them from racing at Isle of Man.

I had to temporarily bump Honnold down to #2 on my Craziest Crap I Saw This Week on the Youtubes.

That was nuts!

Sorry, Alex.
