That HellMouth guy does seem like a total @zzhole. He was on the sports channel, complaining that his opponents "weren't playing real poker", that he'd "never seen such poor poker skills", and so forth. A few hands later, he was busted, and still complaining into the camera that he was the best, they were terrible, etc.
He should take some of his WSOP money and pay a doctor to take that hideous tumor off his face.

Funny thing about phil, he alwasys complains that people 'don't play right' when they beat him.
Seeing as how he is such an excellent poker player, my strategy would to be to play crazy against him as well.

I didn't say he doesn't know how to play. He's obnoxious. If he got those bracelets by rattling his oponents with the HellMouth, MPTH. I don't like watching him mouth off, though. Seems like a poor style of play. Sorta like a jerk who stands behind you at the golf tee and yells "Swing!" just as you hit the ball.
Yeah, play a wild, unpredictable game. That's how that Kasperov guy beat the IBM Big Blue chess computer. The machine would get stuck in endless WTF? loops, trying to figure out what the "strategy" was.

He really is an @sshole for sure, who cares if he is good or not, some of the things he says to his opponents is over the line IMO, poker is supposed to be fun, not a competition for being the biggest loud mouth dick.

Helmuth is clearly a good poker player. He would take every dollar we would bet against him.
The question is whether he is just an immature jerk, or marketing savvy, like a Muhammed Ali.
As in there is no bad publicity in Hollywood. Or as in getting dumb-shts to play him thinking that just playing stupid will beat him.

Well fvck, I'd bet against him, before the flop with AA or KK.
But for all his mouth, I've seen a lot worse insults delivered by other players.

Comparing Ali's trash talk to HellMouth's seems a bit of a stretch.
Ali was charismatic. When he mouthed off, there was a certain humor to it. And yes, Ali ("The Mouth") used his trash talk to good effect. Probably the most famous example was when he beat Foreman in Zaire. During the fight, he kept saying, "What's the matter George? Can't you hit me hard? These people want to see me fight a champion, not some old lady." Foreman punched away until he ran out of gas and Ali dropped him.

Maybe that's how the game is played today. The gentlemen of a different era are gone, replaced by vulgar curs who need the artificial advantage of insults and trash talk.

Well yeah. He was the first 'young whiz kid.' Look at the tournament now. It's all 24 year old guys with huge egos and questionable clothing habits.
Glitz, baby, glitz!

Phil knows full well that his whining is part of his strategy and that's why he does it. 9 bracelettes is nothing! Hell... One the greatest poker players ever to live has 10! That's... that's... oh... just one more than phil. Jingy... if you manage to get him to kiss it make sure to take picts.
And the level at which he plays the game isnt' about fun. It's about winning that million bucks sitting at the end of the table. I'd hate to have a jerk like that at my table if we were playing $2/$4. But wit that kinda money on the line it's a whole new ballgame. For those guys it's WORK. yuk.
I think The Candyman would scare Phil.... Im... NOT!

Phil is actually a gracious winner.
it's that sore loser thing he has said he's working on, LOL.
All he does is give peopel shyte for winning when they play the wrong odds. All that stuff is written down too, it's not like a secret or anything.
You get your 5X BB raise with JJ called by 4 6 offsuit and lose to two pair or a set on the river, you'd be mad as hell too, and probably say something about it.

Maybe you should concentrate on the great reads, trap sniffing and calls that Phil makes, and quit concentrating on his demeanor.

Dude, I was high!!! One hit of 'one-poke' sh*t and I turned into mothra. Huge tunnel vision. I was so focused on the trips, I neglected to see the full boat. I really didn't lose anything other than being able to stomp Mini's all in bet. Yes I should have had that one, but at the end of the day, I had still nearly doubled my money.
It was a stupid move on my part, I know!
