Jesus loves you and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary.
Saddam was a good guy when Reagan armed him, a bad guy when Bush's daddy made war on him, a good guy when Cheney did business with him, and a bad guy when Bush needed a "we can't find Bin Laden" diversion.
Trade with Cuba is wrong because the country is Communist, but trade with China and Vietnam is vital to a spirit of international harmony.
The United States should get out of the United Nations, and our highest national priority is enforcing U.N. resolutions against Iraq.
A woman can't be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulation.
The best way to improve military morale is to praise the troops in speeches, while slashing veterans' benefits and combat pay.
If condoms are kept out of schools, adolescents won't have sex.
A good way to fight terrorism is to belittle our long-time allies, then demand their cooperation and money.
Providing health care to all Iraqis is sound policy, but providing health care to all Americans is socialism.
HMOs and insurance companies have the best interests of the public at heart.
Global warming and tobacco's link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools.
A president lying about an extramarital affair is an impeachable offense, but a president lying to enlist support for a war in which thousands die is solid defense policy.
Government should limit itself to the powers named in the Constitution, which include banning gay marriages and censoring the Internet.
The public has a right to know about Hillary's cattle trades, but George Bush's driving record is none of our business.
Being a drug addict is a moral failing and a crime, unless you're a conservative radio host. Then it's an illness and you need our prayers for your recovery.
What Bill Clinton did in the 1960s is of vital national interest, but what Bush did in the '80s is irrelevant.
[Yeah some of these are lame, but others are spot on. While we can think of similar Democrat jingles, I think they pale in comparrison to what we have with the current Republicans.]

Funny how anything said against Republicans these days equates to a hatred for Bush. Which items in the above list do you view as being aimed specifically at Bush? (Personally, I think your comment just proves how much distance most Republicans want place between themselves and the current bunch of crooks in the White House.)
fattrad, glad to hear that you don't subscribe to the majority of what is proposed on the above list. However, it's my estimation that most people who defend the Republican ideals aren't in your same boat.

90% of voters make their choices based on what LBJ called "BS issues" that have nothing to do with what actually goes on in government. This includes:
-Anything to do with religion
-Anything to do with immigration, except to the degree that population changes affect electoral outcomes
-The Environment
-Stem cells and other proxies for abortion
-Perceived candidate acumen on national security (everybody thinks they're a national security voter, but most Americans can't tell you how any given office, including the presidency, actually affects national security, but they sure think that one guy is better than another on doing whatever it is they would be doing)
-Anything to do with race, poverty, or both
-Honesty and integrity in government
-Foreign aid
-Tax cuts affecting the bottom 75%
-Reduced dependence on foreign oil
The list goes on. I love the list that started this thread, because it's good for partisan bomb throwing and can leave people who get tied up in this stuff sputtering and frustrated. But the reason that the ruling party's positions don't make sense on any of that stuff is because they don't have to, they're not aspects of a functional process, but rather a PR campaign. If you want to know if an issue really matters to the business of government, look for consistent action on it, year after year, by the same actors.

The celebrity focused American Public votes charisma over most else. The front man gets elected while the same old cast of characters runs things from behind the scenes.
Arnold is a front man for Wilson's old team.
Bush is a front man for his dads old team.
And given that charisma sells and substance walks, who do the democrats nominate for their candidates?
Gore and Kerry!
There is no hope for us

"What you must believe to be a Democrat"
1) Everybody else owes you a living!
2) Richie boy/whitie boy should pay higher taxes so you can get 'more of your fair share' and take a road trip climbing!
3) Wealth redistribution for the lazy is really not just 'legal plunder'. It's the American way!
4) Health care is a legal right - even though you smoke, are fat, and might get HIV/Aids (and that would be part of the HIPAA privacy Act even though spreading TB is not). After all, why should you be responsible and have to pay for your lifestyle?
AND . . .
The government can do it best i.e. please, please, someone help me make it through life. It's just so unfair!
I am happy that I am just about to the point that I can take my chips off the table and let everybody else fight it out. Opps, what if others like me take their chips off the table. Who will pay for everything then.

Big money sticks with big money,
Big property sticks with big property,
Be a jerk - go to work,
Be cool - go to Dad's school.
That's why I like it at the Country Club:
Everybody's happy there because
They're already rich,
I just can't stand being around those
Poor people who bitch all the time.

Republicans and Democrats are both rife with corruption, special interest, kick-backs, etc.
I enjoyed the first post as well as TooSlow's. If you can't or don't want to see the humor in both sides shortcomings you are missing out the chance to laugh at bunch of stupid f*#king stupidity.
It is pretty disheartening to see the standard defense of attacking the other side though instead of responding with humor or to the allegations. Has politics really invaded our individual minds to the point that we can't think for ourselves anymore and just respond with propoganda/talking points?

Hey bob d’, wake up, I know it's hard to believe in Boulder; Canadians that can afford good health care all come to the US. The waiting list for an MRI is currently 8 months out in the northland. Might have a brain tumor? You can wait! That’s a ‘Fact’ my friend!
Stzzo; think you might be missing a few of the more detailed tax points. The poor people don’t pay (Chaz). Try understanding the current tax code. You know - the one that gets me for 36% federal while others get money back for the “earned income credit”. How would you like to shop for milk and bread according to how much you make – due to your hard/smart work ethics?
Yes sir, for you Mr. TooSlow, that gallon of milk will be $4.50 but your unemployed neighbor that just spent the day at the crag (or the summer in Yosemite) can get it for just $1.25. Oh, and by the way, thanks for that higher rate you pay at the State level as well as your contribution for Medicare tax (that ought to keep a few veterans still smoking outside of the VA Hospitals).
I don’t think people who get the ‘earned income credit’ should be allowed to vote – democrat or republican, (renters should not vote in local elections either since they don’t pay property taxes) AND, the people who pay the higher rates should get ten to twenty votes per election. Now that’s fair!!!!

Caughtinside...Of the 130 billion dollars spent on health care in Canada...40 billion goes to care-for profit. Read Fattrad post. He say there is NO care-for-profit in Canada.
From CBC.CA: Does private health care exist in Canada today?
It’s a crucial part of the system.
Canada spent approximately $130 billion on health care in 2004, according to Health Care in Canada, a report released by the Canadian Institute for Health Information on June 8, 2005.
Of that, just over $90 billion was spent by governments delivering public health care. Almost $40 billion was spent on private health care.
Tooslow...seems your the one that needs to wake up. Canadians pay for health care and there is for-profit-care in Canada.
What the Canadian system does is make Health
Care available to every citizen regardless of income.

Let's not go crapping on the EITC. The Ayn Rand crowd can piss and moan about it all day (which they will, because god knows if there's one thing you should be doing under that philosophy it's sitting around engaging in sanctimonious bitching). But that is a piece of legislation that no pragmatic student of policy would argue against, and it's one of the few elements of the tax code that is pretty good at rewarding people who actually work for a living.
