FYI Went climbing at the base of El Cap today.

There are no fixed lines to Heart Ledges. In fact, I had to yard one of the dropped lines out of La Costa Right's crack.

Don't know the who, what, or why of it

just info

Peace

Well, you have to wonder about being the first to jug the things if they've been up there all winter with ice falling down on them!

Please keep us apprised, as some of us might want to take advantage of them this spring season.

Unethical? Probably. Illegal? Probably. Handy? Damn straight!

Escalator is a good name for them, since they aren't really "rap ropes". The ones on the eastern raps are no good for rapping because they usually have knots in them and skip the second ledge. And it seems they are usually tied through the big iron rap ring, so people can't thread their own rap ropes into it without damaging the fixed lines when they pull their rappel ropes. Clearly people use them for a quick way to the top, though.

Hahaha, Ammon beat me to it. At least we know Ivo had nothing to do with it this time.
