Any stories? I learned to climb from my friend's dad who had taken a class from Chris. Some said he was called "Speedy Gonzalez."

One of the climbs they did was the actual waterfall in Rattle Snake canyon. Not sure if it was an FA or not at the time... early 80s maybe late 70s.

In line with this; does anyone remember the crew that worked at Adventures Unlimited in Orange, CA? I think that was the name. Right next door to the Villa Theatre on Tustin ave near Katella. Scuba shop upstairs and climbing outdoor stuff down stairs. Got my first pair of shoes there; Asolo Onsights. Cool shop.

Double Cross was rated F8

all the pics show guys with their chalk bags slung around their shoulders, not their waist's.

rad, love climbing guidebooks.

Did Chris lived in New York City in the late 80's. I believe I used to boulder with him in central park.

That's a different Chris Gonzalez. Your referring to the Gunks climber who later moved to CA and climbed with Will Chen quite a bit.

bwancy,

There was a series of posts about climbers that were 'all back in the day'

As I mentioned above, my 'genealogy' of climbing sort of goes back to Chris, though I don't know him for a hair on my butt.

Twould be cool tho to hear some stories about Chris, assuming it is the same Chris. His name is on a few FAs that I remember out in Indian Cove.

How long was he guiding instructing out in JT? Were there particular routes he put up that he dug?

Did he in fact do the FA of the Waterfall in Rattle Snake canyon?

I arrived at Camp 4 on Triple Direct this year, just as a guy climbed in from the Nose. It was Chris Gonzales and a younger partner. We were stuck with each other for the rest of the climb and friends by the top. Great Guy.

By sheer coincidence I met his roommate a few weeks later in the Valley. Strange cause he lives in some god forsaken state now. He's a doc (med research/pathology?) if I remember correctly

Peace

Karl,

I believe that would also be the "other" Chris Gonzales.

I think that the 'other' Chris is the one that Karl met based on a discussion that I had with Chris right before leaving CA to move to Europe. Chris G (from Monterey, now) is a semi-retired research medical guy, I beleive, and you could get in contact with him if you needed to at sanctuary rock gym. I mention this becuase of the possibility that the OP is looking for this Chris.

There was a Chris Gonzales who worked for Bob Gaines at Vertical Adventures in the mid-nineties. EXCELLENT teacher.

I'm talking about the Chris that did the FFA of Direct South Face on Moosedog Tower in 1975 and taught climbing classes at Indian Cove.
