What does everyone think about the specialized 'bat hooks' with the small, split tip. I guess these are supposed to compress a bit in bat hook holes and stay better. Just wondering if these are actually better then the standard filed hook approach.

Are you talking about Pika bat hooks? I got one recently, but I prefer grinding my own from Cliffhangers. I prefer them a tad longer than Pikas.

I like the Pika bat hooks. Tapped into a hole, purty solid. Split tip does seem to work well. They just "feel" more solid than a leeper to me.
Custom ground coonyard or BD cliff hanger are the best, IMO.

Black diamond used to make the talon, three hooks in one, one of the hooks on the talon bathooked well. Maybe they still make it.

Interesting comment Guido, I also grind down my BD cliffhangers...They're nice in sandstone where a longer hook in a deeper hole provides more security. I've seen the short hooks blow out shallow holes...Whoa!

That's what Mud Beaks are for.

A couple or three different shapes will usually get ya through the odd slopey/weird hole. Be sure to create an extra long one (as has been said) that reaches back into the hole further than the standards do. Since the Talon'n BAT has a square-ish tip, the corners can bite more up on the sides of the hole, away from the slopey part in some cases.
I've got a sweet unit that was customized by a company called BL's Heads. I heard they're not producing gear anymore. That's a shame...

They're still making gear and will float 'the bros' but they don't sell gear anymore because they don't want to get sued by... It's not worth a little beer money here or there.
