Massively tragic. Jack's an awesome person, and his wife Pam one of the best people I know.

edit: and for those who may not know, he posted here as Bldrjac.

This is really hard for me...Jack was a dear and wonderful friend. I'm really going to miss him.

Jack on the right after a day of climbing near Taos, NM.

I asked that the previous threads be deleted as Pam (Jack's wife) was/is out of the country and could not be reached immediately.

F*#king awful.

I remember climbing ice in Cody with Jack a few years ago. I had some cursed spring mountaineering gloves for sub-zero temps and like a noob I promptly got giant frostbite blisters on about 6 fingertips. I did the rappels fearing for my fingers and then we hiked across the South Fork and retreated to the Holiday Inn for alcohol.

I whined about my fingertips and amputation and other doomsday scenarios. Jack patiently listened and then asked me if I had come to Cody to climb ice or hang out in the Holiday Inn. The next morning we were at it again, although I brought thicker gloves this time.

Great partner in a lot of my best mountain memories. My deepest condolences to Pam.

Jack was a regular visitor to Alaska (and a bonafide badass) and my wife and I always enjoyed hanging out with him at Basecamp. Just saw him a week ago and had a bunch of drinks and laughs together at the Ouray icefest. At 58 he looked like a million bucks. Could not have imagined this.
Condolences to his wife, family, and to our community.
Jack, we'll miss you bro!

Terrible news. I first met Jack in the late 70's in Joshua Tree just after he had come back from Mt. Huntington. He was a good man...

just met him at the Ice Festival,
walked up, introduced himself, said we should get together for a climb...
I said "yes!"

He posted here as Bldrjac and replied to the Ouray Ice Festival thread on January 14th which was Saturday, his last post on STForum

my profound condolences to his friends and family

Very sad. Whoa Ed, that is close contact. Leaves such an empty feeling.
Thoughts for his wife.

A life well lived, but way too short.

Oh, damn. Damn! Jack and I did a bunch of climbing together back in the day. He was friendly and easy going but as motivated and determined as they come in the mountains. Right now all our trips are playing back in my head. One of our best moments was the evening back in the Awhanee bar after doing HDIAD. The mountain world has lost another good soul. I will miss you Jack. RIP.
