This was another one of those far-fetched, non-commercial art projects we could only afford to work on as a side deal so it took almost three years to finally complete. I was getting story revisions sent from iPhones on the side of El Cap.
There's little return on these big hard back books - printing costs a fortune now - and they are only possible when everyone pitches in with their best work, basically for greatly reduced prices or nothing at all, but it's always a rush to have the best material consolidated in one source so all of us can have something to dream on. Basically, the profits from the previous two Stonemaster books paid for this one. If this one makes any scratch we'll put it into the next one: Wall Rats.
Photo editor Dean Fidelman curated the finest, most evocative images of the last twenty years including suave and spectacular work from Chin, Ditto, Schaefer, Zak, Epperson, Rich, and others. And all our climbing icons really stepped up with their stories.
Design by Graham; editing by JL and Anders.
The thing came out absolutely killer.

Congrats on getting another big project done! Looking forward to a good read.
One thing...I don't mean to upset the boat...but in the book preview I saw that Mayan Smith-Gobat is described as an Australian.
From her blog:
...This year, after two seasons in the Valley, I fulfilled my dream free climb this great wall, with my ascent of the Salathe, becoming the first Kiwi (male or female) to free climb...
This could upset a few New Zealanders -- they're a proud bunch!
But again, John, a big congrats.
EDIT 11/14/2011: Issue resolved, see Largo's post below.

Nice work guys! This needed to be done. It should do well enough to get the first printing money back. Hopefully better. It should do great at the Ansel Adams Gallery.
Any book tours? You should at least do a day at the AAG to kick it off.

Hi Jim,
Thanks for bringing up the encryption.
When you go to checkout that section of the site becomes secure with encryption. you'll notice the url changes to https: "s" for secure. This certificate costs more than the hosting. I wish it was more noticeable.
Thanks for the interest and thanks to all for the orders we're getting so far.
You won't be disappointed
Cheers,
Mike

Yes thank you for the order, we got it. I am noticing your email is bouncing back. So I was wondering if you received an order confirmation. If not PM me your email address and I'll correct it.
I'm currently talking to a few outfits for distribution up in Canada to make this easier for you all up north. But alas it's slow going...
Thanks again!

I saw the book in draft form, and helped a bit with perusing the text. (I believe that a few of the photoessays were added or changed subsequently.) The essays and photos sparkle, and for the most part haven't been published previously AFAIK. Well worth it.

Yeah! Nicely put. This new book sounds fantastic. This (seemingly ongoing!) series of big Yosemite books is a huge gift to the climbing community; putting all these stories and images together while they are still fresh and available; putting meat on the bare mythic bones. Gotta get me one.
