Just heard a press conference on the radio. Joe Paterno got the boot along with the president of Penn State.

What took so long? They should be tried as accessories.

If you knew someone had raped a kid, you'd call the cops. I know you would. Any reasonable person would.

Why didn't Paterno?

What the hell's wrong with him?

He ought to be locked up.

In California, there's a law that says an authority-type figure ( teacher, preacher, cop, etc. ) can be locked up if he knows of a kid being abused, and doesn't immediately report it to the police.

"We have reached a new low"

who is the 'we' ?

Do you refer to the public that called for his firing after Paterno's friend molested boys while Paterno did next to nothing ?

Paterno's unwillingness to do more to stop Sandusky will forever taint anything he did as a head coach in my mind .

The Atlantic had a good article in a recent issue, entitled "The Shame of College Sports". Essentially exposing the monopolistic corruption endemic in the US college professional sports system.

The President of Penn State was also fired by the Board of Trustees, but in our culture that will be a non-event.

How do you walk away from seeing that? You don't drag that sorry sack of sh#t out of the shower? You don't tell the police?

Paterno said:
"This is a tragedy," he said. "It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more."

Hopefully the next greatest sorrow in his life will spending the next few years in the state penitentiary.

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Latest-News-Wires/2011/1110/Penn-State-riot-Students-react-to-Joe-Paterno-firing

More than 1,000 protesting Penn State University students poured into the streets around campus on Wednesday after head football coach Joe Paterno was fired in fallout from a child-abuse scandal at the school.

Rioting to protest his firing, not his protecting a child rapist.

So it goes.

Wonder how long this has been going on...probably a lot longer than 9 or so years. Why was it allowed to happen? Follow the money trail...What a way to wrap up your career, your life.

Read the grand jury report, it's horrific: http://cbschicago.files.wordpress.com/2011/11/sandusky-grand-jury-presentment.pdf

Let's never forget what Paterno did not do. His trusted assistant comes to him and reports the rape of a 10 year old boy one day AFTER it happened and didn't call the cops. So what does Paterno do? He also DOES NOT CALL THE COPS. That is where Paterno lost everything. Paterno not only did not call the cops, he tacitly allowed the pedophilia to continue on his watch and on his, effective, property for an additional 9 years. Paterno just threw away everything he ever did positive because of hubris and ego.

I'd imagine Mugs Stump is swinging his old Chouinard axes over this.
