The rubber was truly innovative but the quality never measured up.

Adidas is buying Five Ten is the gist of the post. Unless Mr Cole is the only shareholder his cash out is less than 25mil.

All Day I Dream About Sex + 5.10 ... makes sense to me. Captains of Industry often see a good thing coming and go for it.

Freaking good on him. He deserves it.

Now lets see what Adidas does with it.

Remember when TNF bought out A5? I hope Deuce made some coin off of that one.

I say good for Charles. He's clearly spent a lot of time building the company from an idea in his head. Nice to see someone harvest the fruits of their labor.

Sorry, you need to have better than beginner-level climbing ability and experience before you get to call yourself a climber.

Crap, I guess I've been violating the rules for a long time now!

Well, another boon to the asian workforce. I guess 5.10 was always made overseas but now it'll be mass production. I have bought 5.10 products over the years, mainly the shoes. Way over priced and mediocore quality. I know they were inovators and some of the first on scene and the stuff was great then cuz no one else was doing it but now there's alot of good stuff out there. Its the name. I would buy the guide shoes again but not for hundred bucks!! And now they are 1% ers...........

Congratulation! $25 mil, nice buy out
Now back to pushing my broom

The story of how adidas and puma were started by two bothers is interesting.

http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2008/04/13/a-tale-of-two-sneakers.html

“Finally, in the mid-1940s Rudolf left in a huff and set up a rival shop across the river, while Adi remained in the initial plant. His company was renamed Adidas, and in 1948 Rudolf registered his new company, Puma. NEWSWEEK's Jennifer Barrett spoke with Barbara Smit, author of the new book "Sneaker Wars" (Ecco; $26.95), about how a family feud spawned two of the biggest brands in global sports.”

I remember when I got my first pair of 5.10 "Verticals". Went climbing on the Apron and was skidding off routes I'd done in EB's and tennies years before. So, I get home to El Portal all freaked out and I call 5.10 to kvetch. Yes, I was that bugged out. Who should answer the phone but Cole. I did my rant and he was just cracking up the whole time. Then he patiently explained the theory behind his rubber and the concept of "interlocking".

Times have changed. Doubt you're gonna get any CEO's picking up the phone these days when you call up to bitch. BTW, at Josh those Verticals would stick to damn near anything.

Don't forget to pay your taxes. What is 39% of 25 million?

Was Cole the sole owner and investor, doubt it.

Bless his heart.

Someone would have stolen the formula and company if he hadn't sold it.

I'm sure they tried and failed, that's why he got so much. If he was easier to rip off, he would be left with lawyer bills and settlement that barely covers the lawyer bills.

That's the way America works.
