“Everything on that table stands between me and 5.11.” - a 65 years old (looking as fit as any 35 year old) George Lowe staring at a spread of cookies, brownies and the like after lunch at an AAC board meeting a couple years ago. I think George could have enjoyed a cookie and still climbed 5.11 the next day in Eldo.
North Face of North Twin, North Ridge of Latok 1 (almost!), Kangshung Face of Everest. We could carry on like this for awhile, but what you need to know is that GEORGE LOWE will present a very rare show entitled “Reflections on My Continuing Amateur Climbing Career" at 7:30 PM on Sunday, December 4 at Spenger's Fish Grotto in Berkeley. The show is part of the American Alpine Club's Sierra Nevada Section Holiday Dinner. Everyone is welcome to attend, and you can join us for the dinner and show or just the show. Dinner requires an RSVP and prepayment. For the show only option, you can pay at the door. For those attending the dinner, cocktail hour will start at 5 PM followed by a buffet dinner. George's presentation will begin at 7:30, and for those coming just for the show, doors will open at 7:15. George's talk will be followed by a raffle with some cool prizes.
A couple of George Lowe’s visionary climbs have been discussed on SuperTopo:

This is your chance to hear it straight from the modest man with the dumptruck full of commitment. George doesn’t give these talks often, and Chris Jones will be there to introduce him. You don't want to miss this show!
Show only:
$10 at the door
Cash bar available. Raffle tickets may be purchased separately.
Full package admission:
$35 for all attendees under 29 years old, whether or not AAC members
$45 for AAC members 29 or older; $50 for non-members 29 or older
Price includes a drink, buffet dinner, and one raffle ticket
RSVP for the dinner by email to tcburch@msn.com
Hope to see you there!

BUMP for George!
Yup, gonna go see him, get some mileage out of my AAC membership. Last time I saw him was 36 years ago in Yosemite. I was a snot-nosed 17-year old and George let me tag along with him for day of free climbs on the base of El Cap. When he found out I'd been living for the last two weeks of my stay on biscuits and milk, he lent me enough $$ to get some real food, and pay for an eventual bus ticket back home. He's a prince among men.

Clearly one of the events that should be on one's calendar. George Lowe is the paragon for all of us. Current Climbing Magazine has him as cover boy, alongside Caldwell, Lynn Hill, Angie Payne. What a cool idea for a magazine piece.

I'm thinking that George must be a whole lot more fun than J-Do; what do you think, Piton? You know them both.

J-Do?? LOL
I know which one I'll let fly me around. That's fer sure.
There is one thing about George. He is indefatigable. Like Jello says, if you really want to get UP something then go with George.
Just don't bother to ask him what he does for a living. It's a waste of time.
We met 18 years ago and I still don't know (but can come up with some pretty wild theories).
But apparently I couldn't get either one to show up in my stead at the Occupy Kor Acres protest this weekend either.
No doubt J-Do is preparing once again to migrate to Patagonia like the arctic tern with the world's largest carbon footprint.

George for the Sierra Nevada Section and Donini for the Southwest Section, both on the same night. Excellent.

For you young pussers, George Lowe is one of the most successful of N. American alpinists. An amazing number of really Bad Arse first ascents in the Tetons, BC, Alaska, the Himalaya. At least two I can think of haven't been repeated.
This will be a very good slideshow.
The AAC Sierra Nevada Section has had three great holiday dinners in three years: Jack Tackle, Jim Donini and now George Lowe. You don't need to come to the dinner to see the slideshow.
See the poster for details.

There's still some space for the dinner, but it's filling up. RSVP per info in original post. No RSVP needed for just the show.
More previous fun reading on George from ST (read Yo's post and spare George the questions about which Lowes are related):

Brother Greg told me recently over a glass of wine about George's tendency to whittle the rack on long alpine climbs down to nothing and then complain about it once he was fully engaged! We had a good laugh over this contributing to his success since lots of rappels weren't in the picture! LOL

Bump for what will be a fun evening. The dinner is full, but there is plenty of room for the show. Only $10. Pay at the door, which opens at 7:15. Cash bar and raffle tickets available.
Chris Jones will introduce George. AAC Executive Director Phil Powers and Community Programs Director John Bragg will also be there. So if you want to speak your mind about the AAC, they will be happy to hear from you.
Here's George on one of the landmark climbs he'll no doubt share - the FA of Mt. Foraker's Infinitie Spur. Photo by Michael Kennedy from the Fall 1982 Patagonia catalog.
Hope to see you there, and bring your friends!

Another bump for George's show. Record attendance for the dinner at 140. Plenty of room for you and your friends at the show. Doors open at 7:15. $10. A last teaser - on the Lowe Buttress of Mt. Everest's Kangshung Face
Hope to see you there!

Uh,.. Steve,
Greg has brothers named Jeff and Mike, but George is his cousin.
Not sure exactly who is the oldest but George is in the best shape and it could be he.
I'd tell him not to worry about the cookies unless they have kryptonite.
