So as I was going through my stuff looking for something I happened to notice that I have a sh#t ton (imperial not metric) of various types of backpacks. It makes me wonder how many packs others have and what kinds?
For example I have a 30 L pack I use for day-long hikes, alpine/ice climbs, and skiing.
60+ L pack I use for multi-day trips
20-30ish L pack for rock climbs/canyoneering
Haul bag
Small packable bag for summit pushes
30 L pack for SARs

I'm sure I'm forgetting some
Somehow I now have 3 crag packs, first was a wild country quest II, pretty impressive to be going strong after 25 years.
2nd is a BD, I forget what they call it, maybe a crag bag. This one is kinda disapointing, they claimbed balistic nylon that can be hauled and take a beeting, well I've never hauled it, but the "balistic" nylon has blown out of the side of the main pouch, and has blown out of the top pouch twice after repairing it once. It is a pretty minimal pack which is why I've used it as carry on luggage around the world.
3rd is another BD, just got it from Sierra Trading post. It'll be used as a ski and ice climbing pack.
Two fanny packs, yeah gafaw, gafaw, but when all you need is to carry some lw rain gear and a water bottle, can't beat it. I thought I'd lost my first one, turns out it was packed away when we put stuff in storage for re-carpeting the house, so I ordered a jumbo mountainsmith one when I got the new bd pack.
There's an extrenal frame back I picked up at Salvation Army for a few bucks, actually a pretty nice suspension and frame and should I ever decide to do some hunting, will be up to packing out meat.
I think the last pack is a costco dry bag pack. It lives on the boat, has first aid kit, handheald gps, handheald vhf, flares, and other sundry survival items. I end up schlepping it on day hikes and add water bottles and snacks. Not the best pack, but it keeps everything dry when heading to shore.
I still need to get a big pack for multi day backpacing trips.
PS, new I was forgetting something, a Fish Grade V haul bag.

Umm...
Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian 62L
Arcteryx Bora 80L
Mountain Hardwear Trad (which, by the way, is not so good for trad... doesn't even fit harness, helmet, shoes, water, and a rack... much less a rope or lunch or a jacket)
REI summit pack, I forget what it's called
And for the record, I have only 2 purses. Dress up one, and non-dress up one.

maybe 8 packs, I can't even count
but how many tents to I have? I have a tent fetish, and every planned trip seems to require a different tent. ha
I can count 7 tents, probably more back in the storage somewhere.(and that is after giving a few away recently)
Sierra Designs super flash, double wall, three hoop (old school, solid alpine 4 season tent);
Bibler I-tent
BD Firstlight
Marmot Titan (travel in asia mosquito net dome - stored in India)
Sierra designs super light flash (used to be my ultra-light before getting my firstlight)
old beater 4 person REI dome (got used from REI for $25) - car camping
Northface Flint (light, cheap two person, two pole mosquito net tent for long distance cycling - and the fly can double with my Firstlight if in really rainy area)
----------- who has the oldest pack?
I've got a Lowe expedition from '81 or so (still my go-to pack for big loads), an REI "klutter sack" from about the same time, and a Blue Forrest haul bag from maybe '76 (now that's a classic) - still gets used when I need a "sub-bag" on walls. My newer 45 liter Black Diamond technical alpine pack is already falling apart - and its hardly ever been used. "ultra-lite" sucks when it comes to packs.

I don't have time to even try to total the packs in our family (apparently I have time to sit here though).
I will say we have packs to cover every need a family of 3 could dream of.
Backpacking, rock climbing, hiking, bike riding, motorcycle riding, dogs, ice, snow, books, shopping, camping, butt packs, camel backs, first aid........

"who has the oldest pack?"
My guess is there are guys on here who own packs older than I am! ( 1963 )
My oldest pack is an external-frame 1979 Jansport D-3. I paid $139 for it new in '79, which was a hell of a lot of cash for a pack back then.
That pack was with me on all of my Sierra hikes, and more nights on San G than I can keep track of.
It's been dragged out of retirement for kite-aerial photography work. It carries the cases that hold my camera rig and radio transmitter ( there needs to be a tiny one of those, mine's freaking huge ), water, a sweater, lunch, and a cooler for beer with space to spare.
I'm as happy with it today as I was the day I bought it!

Too many. Can count that high. I have 4 Cilogear packs alone.
Here's 2 in action:
I have the Hauly on the ledge below, and the summit pack stuffed with the lead line on my back.
Most memorable pack was an old Karrimor Hot Rock which I gave to a Thai lad who lusted after its ancient hole filled body over in Railey.
