I'm in Santa Clara now, but a few years ago I used to live in Steven's Canyon. Drove past that quarry everyday. My buddy lives down there now, had to drive through the gauntlet this morning to get to work. He said the media were more of a hold-up than the scores of cops at the scene.

This quarry is right across the road from Steven's Creek Resevoir, just down the road from Steven's Canyon Boulder. It's right next door to the Sunnyvale Rod/Gun club where I usually shoot as well, and maybe some of you do too.

Shooter still on the loose. Choppers in the sky as I type, doing slow hovers. Probably trying to make use of the last of the light today.

(this thread may expire in a few days)

EDIT: It appears he lives close to me and was last seen moving from the scene towards Santa Clara. May be why I keep seeing helos hovering around the area.

For those that live in the area, check local news for pics of the dude. Essentially, a tall black dude. Brown jacket, black hat. 49 years old. 5'11" 230 lbs roughly.

Keep yer eyes peeled.

How do you know that he's 49? Is there an ID?

Link to an informative website?

I hope they find this guy too.

Equally as "LAME"...

LOL!!!...

Similar to THIS thread...

;-)

Locker, how is this thread lame with a shooter on the loose? It's not climbing-relatd?

Well, people in this area need a heads-up and a description. The guy is shooting people who refuse to relent their cars in car-jackings. Shot a chick in the leg when she essentially told him to f*#k off in a car-jack attempt.

Making jokes here is kinds lame, dude....

Brandon, Bluey is spot on, on this one, guy's photo has been all over the media here today. He went berserk at a meeting. They know exactly who it is.

I think you're mistaken about the quarry. It was the Lehigh Southwest Cement Company which is the old Kaiser Permanente quarry at the head of Stevens Creek Road. There's a photo on CBS news which shows an armored vehicle at the gate of the Permanente quarry. Not the smaller quarry on Foothill Rd across from Stevens Creek Reservoir.

From the linked article: "The once-weekly meeting where the shooting took place was held to discuss safety procedures such as proper climbing techniques...."

See, it's climbing related.

Weird story. I was just reading about this guy, he wrote a book about solving problems in a nonviolent fashion, interviewed Jesse Jackson on Cable Tv all sorts of things..

Then brings a handgun and an Ak47 to a morning meeting and snaps. It's a weird world

I'm real interested to hear the back-story on this one. What kind of circumstances lead a person down that path?

Is he a misguided would-be hero fighting some terrible repression we'll never know anything about, or did a screw just come loose from ordinary types of day-to-day difficulties and injustices?

I found out after school my kids were locked in their classrooms all day as a safety precaution, lunch inside, escort by adult for bathroom trips. I found this out while I was the only parent out with my kids playing on the school playground at sunset!

Friend says Calif quarry suspect showed off AK-47

By TERRY COLLINS
The Associated Press

5:36 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2011
SUNNYVALE, Calif. — A close friend of the employee accused in a deadly California quarry shooting says the suspect showed off an assault rifle over the weekend and said he would use it at work.

Twenty-year-old Brandon Powell tells The Associated Press that Shareef Allman visited him Saturday at his Sacramento home and showed him a newly purchased AK-47.

When Powell asked what the gun was for, Allman said there were racist people at work who were "messing" with him, then laughed.

Powell says he thought Allman was joking. Many of Allman's friends have described him as a devoted father and community volunteer never known to be violent.

Authorities say Allman fatally shot three co-workers and wounded six others Wednesday during a work meeting in Cupertino.

They haven't discussed a specific motive, other than to say the suspect was disgruntled.

weschrist. re bluering.
Nope, not meaning to imply anything of the sort, just trying to post the correct facts.
By the time I heard about it the facts were well known in the media. bluey may have not had complete facts when he posted. There are two very large quarries, in adjacent canyons, close enough that their excavations almost touch.

What this man did was horrendous, of course. I'm not pleased that he's dead. Criminals should be brought to justice in a public court. I'm skeptical that the police made enough efforts to take him alive. I hope I'm proven wrong. I'm pretty sick of the police gunning down people when they've got alternatives. And it's happened enough around here, I'm not sure I'll believe a report that they had no choice this time. I'm not happy that "law and order" have come to this in Santa Clara County, or BART for that matter.
To paraphrase the Al-Awlaki thread: if they can shoot Shareef without cause, they can shoot me.

To paraphrase the Al-Awlaki thread: if they can shoot Shareef without cause, they can shoot me.

Well, in Shareef's case there was considerable reason to believe he was willing to kill/maim innocents. Sometimes trying to apprehend people like him to stand a 'fair trial' is very dangerous to LEOs and innocents around them.

Same with Al-Awlaki, but to a lesser degree. He didn't kill anyone we know of, just incited others to attack the US.

I DO know what you mean though, especially in Awlaki's case. The US gov't drone-zapping US citizens without a trial is treading into unconstitutionality, if not swimming in it!

Anyone opposed to me zapping this thread or should I keep it up?

I'm sure they gave him one second to raise his hands and then it was over
Is that how the two San Jose police killed the Vietnamese woman holding a vegetable peeler in her kitchen?
Murder is murder.....unless committed by cops.....then it has no name.
I have nothing personal against police, my Uncle was a Bobby, I've had friends who were a Utah Highway Patrolman and Federal Magistrate, I have a woman cousin who's an Australian street cop.
I have everything against undisciplined trigger happy police. Who knows fatty? You could be next if you can't get your old badge out of your wallet fast enough. They might think you're going for your Glock and blow you to pieces.
Like the BART cop did to Meserle.

I await an accurate report of what happened this morning. And I reserve the right to be skeptical of that report.
I'm glad Allman is off the street. He ought to be in jail awaiting trial, conviction and imprisonment. If he genuinely attempted to resist arrest and possessed a firearm he got what he should have expected.
