Hello.
I'm a lighting designer and sound tech and am just being able to get back to climbing. I do a lot of rigging and climbing around on truss and need a rope I can use to rig, rappel and do a little bit of climbing with. I am thinking of an 8mm 200'. is that big enough? I will most likely be doing double line rappels so I'm pretty sure it'll be strong enough. Thanks.

I've been told that before but I ain't dead yet. I've read posts from some people who have done single line rappels on 8mm rope. Just want a few other opinions and reasons it wouldn't work. Cheers.

As a double line it'll be alright but 8 mil and maybe sharp edge trusses might wig me a bit.

It isn't the 8mm rope that's the problem.

The truss we have is 2inch pipe truss with no sharp edges. Most of the time I'm not even 30 ft off the ground and I just don't want to climb back in on a wire rope ladder and have to pick it back up somehow. I just want to be able to drop the ladder and double the rope over and rap down. I'll buy another rope for trad climbing when I'm able to do that again.

And Fromy, if I may ask, what would be the problem? Thanks for all the answers. I appreciate it.
