Does anyone have an up-to-date approximation?

I want the estimation for the entire park. I'm guessing we might be able to get within 500 routes or so:)

Wow.
Good question Mighty Hiker. Is Unicorn Peak a "route"?
How many routes is Matthes Crest? East Buttress of Middle?
Perhaps divide the park into different areas, and tally for those areas.
Divide and conquer.

About 3,000 known modern free routes in the Valley. Probably quite a few more. I would think there are easily well over 6,000 in the Park. Clint and Ed could give you a pretty good idea.

I am looking for 5th class routes and aid routes. Variations are different routes in my opinion as long as they aren't just a few moves or a section of a pitch.
Thanks for the input. It would be cool to get an accurate number/list accounting for new routes since the last comprehensive Valley guide.

Ken makes an interesting observation; just free routes or aid routes too (I'm guessing that "Class 5" includes the old "Class 6").

It's about 3000 free + aid routes in the scope of the Valley guidebooks (includes Watkins, Yasoo Dome, Half Dome, Starr King).
The current count on my best list is 2966, and this excludes some ongoing projects suppressed from the count.
Add Meadows, High Sierra and Hetch Hetchy routes to that.
I have a list of 782 Meadows routes from 2007.
I count 53 Hetch Hetchy routes on my best list.
