Grim. Very, very grim.

And possibly a pivot point in history.

Copter Downed by Taliban Fire; Elite U.S. Unit Among Dead
By RAY RIVERA, ALISSA J. RUBIN and THOM SHANKER
Published: August 6, 2011

KABUL, Afghanistan — In the deadliest day for American forces in the nearly decade-long war in Afghanistan, insurgents shot down a Chinook transport helicopter on Saturday, killing 30 Americans, including some Navy Seal commandos from the unit that killed Osama bin Laden, as well as 8 Afghans, American and Afghan officials said.

The helicopter, on a night-raid mission in the Tangi Valley of Wardak Province, to the west of Kabul, was most likely brought down by a rocket-propelled grenade, one coalition official said.

But was it an inside job? Was this revenge for the killing of OBL? Lots of unanswered questions in this story!

This is a very big deal- not just another event in a chickenhawk's video game war.

This could very well become the USS Cole or USMC Barrack bombing in Beirut...the kind of event that finally makes the US public sit up and take notice of a really shitty situation.

The amount of pain and suffering that the families and friends of these committed people is unimaginable.

What, exactly, have US troops accomplished there, I ask those who cheer from the sidelines?

Fatty? Blue? TGT?

Why don't you ask little girls who go to school there now? And also ask the ones who have acid thrown at them BECAUSE they are allowed to go to school. We should walk away from that????

Yet, you would be one to fight for a stupid f*#king bird, right?

We got into this this war over anger. Once there we found a huge can of worms. We can walk away and say it ain't problem, or we can try to help them.

What say you?

What is sad, bordering on criminally ignorant, is proclaiming opinions on matters of war when you've never had any direct experience with it, and spraying your supposedly knowing opinion forth like a fountain of wisdom.

Chickenhawks are chickenhawks. Lives and families are real. Get our good soldiers out of that lost cause NOW.

Out of respect for the families of our forces that were lost I would ask a little bit of sensitivity (civility) from you all.

The truth is ... is that we are at war, and when we finally treat it like one, it will come to its' full conclusion.

It reflects poorly on posters here to be disingenuous and condescending to those (families) that have given (paid) the ultimate price.

JMO - please refrain from attacking me personally for just saying ...

STFU! I'm tired of this bullshit!!!!!

So, if I was an Army Ranger and said let's f*#king just carpet bomb the whole area because I was there and the Camel-F*#kers are insane, that'd be cool with you guys???

That's be a legit source?

You guys are unreasonable.

blue, you try to pull the 'we should abandon the young girls in school who have acid thrown in their faces' card for one reason, and one reason only:

War is a feckin' video game to you. Your primary understanding of war is the testosterone-driven orgasm you get when you watch things go BOOM!

Anyone who has seen war, or had a close family member directly involved or affected by it, has far more experience than you do. Every time you post a line on this topic, you embarrass yourself.

War is a feckin' video game to you.

Says you, with your assumptions again. Do I know you? Do you know me?

Why do you think I follow the wars more closely than almost anyone here.

I fully sympathize with all those that die for their country.

"I fully sympathize with all those that die for their country. "

As do I, as best I can, not having been there myself.

Unless you lied a bald-faced lie, I've asked you about your history of military service, and your reply was 'none'. Your follow-up response was something to the effect of 'does that mean I shouldn't be proud of our military?'

This is real-life and real death, bluering. It's not just another page in your favorite ST Afghanistan thread.
