I was wondering if anybody uses a Tibloc and a Petzl Fixe pulley for hauling. I thought this might be a good combo as its very light and compact and saves you carrying too much crap with you when you lead. Do you think the Tibloc would be up to it? They take between 4 and 7.6kN (depending on how fat your line is) which is blatently enough for a haul bag.

Cheers,

It's great for hauling if you don't need your stuff, those things are death. Don't be a lazy ass, just cary up a full weight pulley and cam. Don't lead with it, have your second tag it up to you with the belay kit.

Thanks coiler... just out of interest what do you mean when you say "tag you belay kit up to you..." ... some I don't have the US lingo (cos I'm from Blighty) ... do you mean leave yuor stuff at the bottom and then use a zip line...?

Tiblocks are great for hauling like five pitches on a twenty pitch alpine free route. But it is a slower process and you have to set it up to be release able (for heavy loads) in order to remove it from the system. This is not such a great wall system and it takes longer to set up and involves thinking (yikes). I personaly shy away from both of those aspects and so I would recomends the petzl mini traxion for a light weight hauler. Also a pully and a jumar work fine as well if you want to not buy new equipement.

Exactly Beardy, use a zip line...that way you don't have to lead with a goon rack. Have a little stuff sac that your belayer puts beers in for when you "tag" the specific gear you need while leading. When you get to the belay he sends up more beer and the haul set-up,extra biners, cordulette etc.

Ahhhhhhh, cool cool beer. Have you got any local recommendations? We only get crud like bud and miller over here... not exactly a good representation for the US brewing industry... Also what size zip line do you use? And I presume that once at the belay you can only ever pull stuff up once... or do you tie the haul line to the bottom of it... hmmm... thanks for the tips ;)

They look darn healthy Minerals. Can you sample these brews easily? Are they a local store beer? Just out of interest what are the bars like in the valley? Expensive? Tacky? Homely?

As the talented Bryan Warsaw once said,"Olde English 800, the Nectar Of The Gods" it's all you need to know about beers in Yosemite. As far as the tagline question...I use a 9mm stratos and do the first light haul with it (1st haul, storm gear, some water, porta ledges, ghetto blaster, beer, anything you'll want right away)
