I'm actually surprised more of the ST folks didn't pick up.
2x8000m. in a day, skiing the Lhotse face, flying off the summit to Namche...AND 27 hours almost on the summit, meditating no less outside his tent... Okay, maybe if it was all done by the same dude?
Gee I guess even a nek'id ascent might knott be news anymore.
Oh well,
Cheers,
DD

I love the Everest scene, it's climbing's example of Lemmings rushing to the sea. All of those people full of existential angst. Unfortunately, by the time they have acquired the time and money for the adventure, they have already bred.

Thank goodness for the lemmings who have improved the Sherpa standard of living so much! I can't believe how wealthy, modern and clean everything looks now in Khumbu compared to the early 1970's.
Right now I'm watching a film recommended by a Sherpa friend on what the climb looks like from the Sherpas' point of view as they get a Swiss expedition to the top.
The only problem is that the online version is all in German with only brief snippets in English, Nepali, and Sherpa. Quite confusing listening to all four languages at once, especially since I don't understand German! However, anybody who has read Krakauer will know what's going on anyway as they progress camp to camp.

My Sherpa friend is getting his Master's degree in London by the way, paid for by the Mt. Everest climbing money earned by his father.

That just like me:-)
I'm paying for my daughter(s)' degrees from the money I earn...
Really though it is an interesting perspective.
Climbers come and go but it's the local's hang.
