Also keep in mind that AAC coverage is limited to $5,000 unless you purchase additional on your own. Better than nothing and a great benefit with membership, but it ain't gonna fly you home on a private jet without an extra bill later.

whoa--read that last comment, which was apparently cut off:
RE: the recovery of Joe Puryear's body, w/o David Gottlieb, a mt ranger for almost 20 yrs and Joe's wife Michelle, Joe's body would still be in Tibet. GR made a few phone calls. It was David, w/ Michelle's assistance, the CMA, and their tour operator that facilitated a quick recovery in extremely poor weather conditions. In this case, GR was just a "911 call center". John Harlin III and I just paid for a helicopter rescue in Switzerland (~$10,000) because we didn't call Global Rescue fast enough after John took a big fall and broke both his feet. John's the AAJ editor, and I've volunteered for the club since 1989. AAC membership does not automatically mean your rescue is paid for. Email me if you want the scoop. camburns [at] rof.net.

helicopter horror, snatched from the jaws of death, dropped into the jaws of bankruptcy.
someone in california kept getting a bill like that. maybe it was $16,000. the buzz was they don't expect you to pay, but they keep sending the bill.

Let's be clear. Global Rescue does whatever it does. But if you belong to the AAC, there's no telling what it (GR) will do for you. If anything.
The Outside article is pure and total BS. Their PR team is beating the all the other PR teams banging at Outside's door. By a mile. I'd invest in their PR firm, if I could.
