Man, it's been a year since I considered myself a 'serious climber', meaning I climb a bare minimum of twice a week.

There's a dearth of partners and like minded folk in my area of NH.

Now I'm feeling the need to get back after it, but with no known partners and the closest gym 45 mins away, I find myself in a motivational slump.

Anyone else experience this?

Buck up and quit being a puss. Build your own wall at home and crank! Then go onsite free soloing.

it's seasonal. let it ride for a bit. if it's been a while, find a good old trip report.

good to email your partners for road trips and make plans for the future. gets you thinking in the right direction.

bust out some guidebooks too while yer on the terlet.

vids are good too.

I haven't climbed much lately either. But then it's the depth of winter. Aren't you smothered in snow and cold out there? Here, it just snowed on the hills of San Francisco. Very unusual!

I have been XC skiing a lot, and am headed up to Kirkwood again in the morning. I find that a perfect aerobic workout to chase away the doldrums. Plus it's great conditioning for the back and shoulders. After spring skiing in the backcountry, year after year I find my upper body surprisingly well toned to get after some climbing.

Just a thought. Cheers!

This is a big problem for me at the moment. Indiana is hardly a climbers dream and having come to it late (started 21 years ago at 38 years of age)I traveled a bunch and along with my partner sought out every avenue we could. Limestone quarries, road cuts and the two closest destinations Red River Gorge, and Southern Illinois. I use to go to the river bluffs but a redneck farmer boy bought it and is not very fond of climbers. Built his damn house near the top and is as about as friendly as a lamp post. I even built a full service gym in Bloomington about 70 miles from where I live but sold it after heart issues and find little motivation as I like being outside. Mike my original teacher and partner was killed in a car wreck 3 years ago and my other partner just quit doing much of anything. So I drive to Chattanooga to climb with friends or to Seneca, the Gorge, Horseshoe Canyon, S. Illinois etc. and often have had amazing luck hooking up with total strangers for some easy climbs. Getting harder to do as I get older. Not many climbers in Washington, IN. and the younger ones that climb in Bloomington and Evansville - well they climb way too hard for me. Solution - build a killer bouldering gym here in nowhere Indiana and get some folks interested in bouldering - hell, it just might work. Meanwhile, it's hit the road like always and keep on keepin' on !!
Never give up - get out and climb on !

Wyoming winters in the 70s were problematic.
Pullups! Plan to meet us for the grugfest! You'll have to start training now! Problem solved.

See you this summer!

the weather has been somewhat unstable ( as it should).. SKI season ROCKS and I have never been really motivated towards the gym. Today I climbed a brick wall, traversing along it as well, near my job. Somebody stopped and asked me what I was doing. smiled and waved.

my mother died this last year and I had a climbing slump from that. no head for it.. or actually no spirit for it or anything much.

start small.

this year could be really good climbing wise.

sex and climbing--no mater how much you get, you always want more, and you think everybody else is getting more than you!
