"Unless you have a relationship with a person outside of this forum e.g. climbing together, knowing each other from the past, emailing one another, phone conversations, etc. You are dealing with electrons in space. Some people need to set some boundaries here. This forum is not your "real life" anymore than "Pac Man" is"

Lois - Maybe if you climbed, you would understand how an online climbing forum is not the same as a video game. When I started climbing it WAS due to the discussion forums that I was able to find people to climb with. I have met, and climbed with, easily 200+ people I have met through Supertopo and one other site.

As well, this forum has dozens of climbers who have made historical ascents, invented the technological advances in the gear we use, and other very real aspects within the hobby, sport, lifestyle or whatever one would call climbing. They are the elder statesmen, so to speak.

Sure there are several people on this site who seem to have not much else to do than post inanities. You may not realize this, because you don't really know much about climbing, but those obsessive posting people are not what is the true worth within this site.

It's NOT just "electrons in space" to those of us with an actual connection to each other. That you view it as such, though it may be just that to you, is really ignorant and inconsiderate.

You are hardly a good example to make this point.

Just another example of how little you understand this forum. Tons of people here have traveled all over the country to meet each other. Just look at Natures sushifests as an example. I don't even climb anymore and I have met at least 30 people from this forum.

My comment is very valid, Lois.

You have a few wankers on a string here, and no awareness of the many other people who populate this site, How could you, since you have never met them?

But I can tell you, there are many, MANY people who view the garbage that comes about on this forum, from threads that are heavily populated by the few vociferous ones that seem to congregate around yourself and a few other posters, as a real drag on their ability to use the forum.

Firstly the intention of this site IS to be of service to the climbing community. Again, I don't expect you to understand what that means. But creating undue drama really detracts from the quality of this site.

MANY peole have told me they want to use the Supertopo forums to find information, but the absurd level of trash is so distasteful they are turned off and refuse to continue making the effort.

You DO have free will, you do have the right to "be here." But please do also know that you(as well as some others) truly do the site and the climbing community it serves a disservice at times.

Your portrait pic looks great Lois.

This petty barbarism slamming members appearance would be way, way out of bounds on a moderated forum. A few years ago, someone berated another male poster’s hairline and several posters chimed in that it was inappropriate and should not be tolerated.

…another standard, though, toward an intelligent lady who shuns climbing.

I would be okay with LEB changing my bed pan or giving me that last hit of the morphine before I move on to the next chapter. She seems quite educated in her chosen profession.

LEB is just one of several posters that contribute nothing to this forum except trolls. I don't open hers or the other's threads and certainly don't respond to their posts. I don't know about their politics and don't care.

Only idiots argue with idiots on the internet.

I only opened this one because LEB stuff has been all over the front page and spills into other threads. Anyway, I don't see why the bookworms and wow, reallys, etcs of this forum are not subjected to the same abuse as LEB. Comments about being raped by fathers and "shut the f up b#$%" are way out of line. Making fun how someone looks is too.

Grow up, don't respond to stupid threads/posts, go climbing.

You should see said thread, note the OP and say “Oh that ___ (fill in the blank). I am certainly not going to waste my valuable time reading HER thread. Whatever ruckus and mayhem is ongoing therein should be totally invisible to you unless you open the thread. You should be busy bonding with these other people and participating in those threads.

It doesn't work that way. People are complaining on the ....climbing threads... about all the off topic threads. Yours comes to the forefront because you have been starting one almost every week for some time now. So when we read on the climbing threads complaints about all the off topic threads, then we try to do something about it. Some here have tried to talk to you, but you don't listen, so they give up and along come the slaggers who just try to get you to shut up for a bit by cursing you and all sorts of things.

You aren't the only person people are complaining about. But you are one of the most visible, so you take a lot of abuse. Dr. F is getting some abuse. So is Crowley. Bluering has taken some and he is taking a bit of a break.

Awhile back a few people talked to me about dialing it back. Tarbuster was one. I paid attention, and did my best to dial it back, but because things were so out of whack here, with way too many political threads, people were still very sensitive and any thread was being bashed. Thats the way it is here. Its a fine line to walk keeping this forum in balance. Either you help by paying attention when the rumbles about things being out of balance occur, or you get smashed like you are right now.

And don't go continuing to argue with me Lois. Good grief. Can't you ever just acknowledge that maybe someone has a point and just shut up for ten minutes? Locker has been trying for some time to tell you its about respect, but you just don't seem to get it. Lay off for a bit. You may have decided that starting one thread a week is okay, but others don't think so, especially since you don't start any threads about climbing.

I still want to be able to talk about non climbing subjects, especially politics, but between you starting too many threads, and Dr. F's anger, Crowleys attacks, and Fatties trolls, this place isn't much fun anymore for off topic threads. So how about taking a break.

Lois, as you know, I am not one of your bashers.

But a few weeks ago I warned you that I was seeing a noticeable rise in resentment by the proliferation of OT posts started by you. This is, after all, a climbers site that tolerates some off-topic commentary. There are already existing threads dealing with the stuff you bring up. Before it was nuked, the "Why are Repubs wrong" thread had served, for many months, as the location where politics were discussed. IMHO, that system worked well.

You shouldn't be shocked that a lot of people are fed up: it's not like they've been subtle about it. But you kept at it, defiant I guess.
