Does anyone know if we are building permanent military bases in Iraq. For our aircraft, bombers, missile silos, etc. Seems to me that this would be a good thing for our future expeditions in the region.

I don't know, but we should be. I imagine we'll be set up in the Kurdish region. They'll need our protection from the south and the Turks. Further, they love us.

We build permanent bases everwhere. We wouldn't be projecting imperialsit power if we weren't, which would kind of be counterproductive to the neocon agenda, now wouldn't it. Democracy! Now with expanded Haliburton base contracts! Get yours today!

Building bases all over the world as neo-con agenda. We were building bases all over the world before the neo-cons came along.
We better get there before the Chinese do.

But their whole goal was to get military installations in Iraq. They wanted to invade Iraq to create a friendly, pro-western 'democracy' from which we can launch pro-western military and propoganda campaigns. Apparently they were finally figuring out that propping up pro-western dictatorships wasn't working out as well as possible. As Fatty likes to say, WMD's were just an excuse. So yes, military bases in Iraq are very much part of the Neocon agenda.

Rajmitiot: "The building of military installations in Iraq will only occur after a stable and self-controlled Iraqi government has been established. There are no plans at this point to build any permanent bases in Iraq."

Horseshit Rajmit. They've already started building them. Do you just make things up off the top of your head?

http://www.fcnl.org/iraq/bases_text.htm

"As of mid-2005, the U.S. military had 106 forward operating bases in Iraq, including what the Pentagon calls 14 “enduring” bases (twelve of which are located on the map) – all of which are to be consolidated into four mega-bases."

Plans are in the works for bases in the Kurdish region, this is what I refer to as our thirty year presence in Iraq.

Ahh. The pullback and qualification of the grandiose predictions begins...
