All of us personally, or people we know, could well be benefited by the Healthcare Reform Bill that President Obama signed into law.

The Mid Term Elections are coming up. The Republicans have stated that if
they regain control of Congress, they WILL repeal the Healthcare Bill.

YOU be the judge. Does the following look like the "death panels" to kill people
that the Republicans claim? Do you think Americans are "harmed" by this?
Do you think everything was "just fine" before?
Then go ahead, vote Republican in November, and vote to have this repealed.

Major new health reform benefits take effect today to help keep health insurance companies accountable, lower health care costs, guarantee more health care choices, and enhance the quality of health care for all Americans.

Starting today, insurers will be required to:

Keep you covered when you get sick: Simple mistakes or typos will no longer be grounds for insurance companies to cancel your insurance.

Cover kids with pre-existing conditions: Your kids can no longer be denied health coverage just because they have a pre-existing condition like hay fever, asthma, or previous sports injuries. This protection extends to all plans, except "grandfathered" plans in the individual market.

Allow young adults to stay on their parents' plan up to age 26: Even if their first few jobs don't provide health benefits, your kids can still remain covered by your insurance.

Remove lifetime limits: You will no longer need to worry about your health insurer limiting the amount of coverage available through their plan if you face an expensive medical condition. This will help Americans who develop chronic conditions from taking drastic measures to avoid medical bankruptcy.

Phase out annual limits: Many plans include annual dollar limits on how much medical coverage can be obtained per year. On all non-"grandfathered" plans in the individual market, these limits will be phased out over the next three years.

For any insurance plan that goes into effect after September 23, 2010, your insurance company must:

Pay for preventive care like mammograms and immunizations: Addressing problems before they start can help keep you healthier, and new insurance plans will now cover many preventative tests and immunizations without any copayment.

Give you a better appeals process for insurance claims: Now you'll have a guaranteed and fair path to help you receive the benefits you paid for if insurance companies deny your claim.

Let you choose your own doctor: Health reform makes it clear that you can choose any available participating primary care provider as your provider, and any available participating pediatrician to be your child's primary care provider.

Provide easier access to OB-GYN services: Women will no longer be required to have a referral from a primary care provider before seeking coverage for obstetrical or gynecological (OB-GYN) care from a participating OB-GYN specialist.

Allow you to use the nearest emergency room without penalty: If an emergency arises while you're away, you will no longer have to drive home to your in-network provider to receive in-network benefits.

Many other new benefits of the law have already taken effect, including rebate checks for seniors in the donut hole and tax credits for small businesses. Keep watching, as more rights, protections and benefits for Americans are on the way now through 2014.

I feel a little let down in how the health care reform went down. I had such high hopes in a single payer system, or at a minimum some insurance company reform. Instead my insurance is up 27% with a higher deductable, and 20% of the increase was because I have asthma.

In my book Obama is just another politician, deep in the pockets of the bane of our existence. Non transparent special interest groups and their lobbyists.

How much of this is due to the health care bill, much of which hasn't taken effect yet?

Obama promised this law would make health insurance more affordable.

But instead, health insurance cost goes up, and soon you'll be required to buy it.

How's that *hope & change* working out for you ?

Chaz, a lot of the provisions of the bill will not take effect today.

The full impact of the reform will not exist until 2014. Also states have a lot of work to do as well. There is a huge mess to clean up.

Chaz, no one, including the President said that the bill would reduce or make anyone's monthly premiums go down,

You can expect them to continue to rise, but perhaps not as fast or much as before.

The bill was designed to make changes in the way healthcare is previously denied.
Review the above ten changes to refresh.

The bill was also designed to extend healthcare to 32 million Americans who don't have any.

The bill was intended to make private for maximum profit plans spend more on healthcare and less on high salaries to their majority shareholders.

It you don't like any of this, then vote to have it repealed by voting Republican.

" high salaries to their majority shareholders" Norton?

And TGT is correct, many carriers just stopped writing children's policies. There is also no price regulation on them,so they can charge whatever they want.

You are truly delusional if you think you can saddle insurers with all preventative care and costs will drop.

Yes.

And

Never said or thought that.

Don't like the changes, then vote Republican and go back to the past. No problem.

Ill let you know if that one works.

My insurance premium + my daughters monthly medication cost are about 10% more than my mortgage in san diego county. not super stoked on that.

To all who are against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 I say this, "why aren't you on Medicare as I am?" What, not old enough? What's magic about 65? Why not 50?, 30?, you get my drift.

For those of you who don't know about this national plan:
Medicare: $94/mo., $135 annual deductible, 20% copay: better than my previous Fortune 500 company plan. Doctors get paid fairly for their services because I've found that they eagerly take me. This can work for you too.

OK, I feel for you "youngsters" but then you too should have supported a single-payer, nationalized health system option. Why don't you? Been watching Fox News? You expect potable water, good roads, .... and yes, publicly owned space for climbing, don't you? Or try it without the government involvement, the Tea Party way. You think Yosemite is privatized now? Expect a big steel gate with a keypad. Small government, indeed.

Norton's right on....good job and thanks!

How's that *bitter ignorance* working out for you? I could explain to you how most of the law still hasn't even gone into effect yet and that Obama's efforts to make healthcare cheaper are already hitting the healthcare system pretty hard, but I know you're mostly interested in being all grumbly and having someone to blame so I'll spare us both a bunch of information that you would choose to forget even if you read it.

Instead here's a picture of some kittens:

Awwwwww. See? Cheer up Chaz. I'm sure Obama won't make your truck break until at least next week.

The President and most of the supporters of the bill said it would lower health care costs. It did not.

The allegations of ignorance on this thread are too rich to comment.

Well, I just filled out the form that will allow me to get coverage for the first time in ten years. Even though it's going to cost me $740/month I'll be happy to have the security of knowing I'll be able to get the care I need.

It's not Obama's fault that we don't have a single-payer plan, it's the intransigent believers in the old status quo that cornered reform into its current less-than-optimum configuration. But in the face of intense obstruction Obama has made progress and I thank him for that. He's still my man.
