Great thing about Holcomb Valley is how featured the place is considering it's granite. The joint's totally set up to throw down 15 or 20 routes a day. I completely missed out on the development of the place (mid-90s) because I was in my sea kayak phase. Oh well, it's clip-'n-go now. Good fun!

I love Holcomb. Definitely one of my favorite areas these days. Rock is super fun to climb on and I can climb all day on it even with my bum shoulder.

Good to see you're getting out!
I remember going there camping with the boy scouts before I started climbing. It was always in the back of my mind that the place had potential, but never checked it out.
Will be in your neighborhood soon and I'll give you a call.

Did some routes at Holcomb around early July last year. Never been there. It was kinda sweltering hot but the climbing was superb. Beautiful setting.
I want to get up there this spring and summer, despite the long motion-sickness inducing drive.

That's what I was thinkin 10b, can't wait to get up to Big Bear area for climbing, awesome scenery and fun climbing with easy approaches at many locations. Looks like the Holcomb Valley/Big Bear threads are getting some traffic on MP so think the road may be open, just have to check the conditions before you go.

I was there once midweek and only saw two other climbers.
But back in the 90's that was how it was on the weekends..and it was called Big Bear Pinnacles aka Coyote Crag.
-just giving everyone a hard time. It's no 'secret' anymore.

Didn't mean to kill the tread LOL...was only kidding about keeping it on the DL. Those days are long gone. Happened when Williamson closed.
Here's the old guide. Sorry about pictures instead of scans but this book has a virgin spine. 1994.

^I love the digitized stuff now. -color pictures, etc.
Haven't counted lately but I think the guide I posted shows about 25 routes as of its printing. Now (if I remember correctly) there's something like 200 routes there and the surrounding area. Not to mention the great bouldering that can be found close by.
Good stuff!
