For road conditions there's a number to call - the Sherman Pass road was closed earlier, my guess is that it's open again (if they are opening campgrounds within the burn area already), but maybe they are keeping it shut to facilitate fire engine traffic.

Thanks Greg! BTW, the ROWCC gang is going up there (including Pat B) on Aug 21st/22nd. Would love you, the wife and the little one to come up for it. Need to talk about some FA's in another area as well. I'll call these gauys to see what the conidtions are like now.

Called the NF office in Kernville. All restrictions along Hwy 99 are lifted. They mentioned a "few" campgrounds along that corridor are closed until they can repair damages caused by firefighting effort but this does not effect either the Needle or the Domelands. In fact, Quaking Aspen CG is OPEN and no restrictions are in effect for The Needles.

Time for some mint chocolate chip cookies!

Thanks Greg for posting the phone number. I was planning on climbing The Needles next week (19-25 Aug).

After some phone calls, I was told by the station at the Western Divide Range* that access to The Needles is closed minimum 2-4 weeks for clean-up.

Margee, who lived at the fire lookout and baked cookies every Sunday for visitors is now working at the Jordan Lookout. If anyone is out that way, she'd probably love a visit with home-made cookies for her.

I think what "Slim" posted is about the most recent info. Not looking good for a bit yet.

Some buds of mine were climbing up on the Kern Plateau (Domelands) last few days. All open and smoke free.

The Lion Fire, being managed by the Forest Service should be winding down this week. All of our crews just came back from there and reported beautiful places and lots of Rattlesnakes. We were on just the Park side by the "haunted" Quinn Patrol cabin. They saw nothing weird, but the packers mules won't go near the place!! There's no time like now to go!

I called, spoke to the ranger this morning, Sunday, 14 Aug. So it looks like the very soonest would be at the end of this month.
