in 2007 the fish froze to the cutting board. That was over Thanksgiving weekend - November.
in 2009 the fish froze to the cutting board. That was over halloween weekend - October.
So we're going to try this in late September. Yeah, we'll probably be able to sear the fish on the cutting board.... grrrrreeeeat.
Saturday September 25th is National Public Lands Day:
http://www.publiclandsday.org/
Jim Donini is organizing a volunteer event with BLM for the Indian Creek area. Contact him for details on that.
Me? I'm slicing fish for the slaves.
Here's the info:
Indian Creek SushiFest, September 25th, 2010.
Please nature for additional information of with questions.
Sushi will be prepared and served starting around 6PM that evening. Food will be served until people stop eating (All you can eat). A $30/person Food donation is requested.
Nature is not professionally retained for this event. He is volunteering his time. The $30 per person goes into the pool that allows him to order fish from places with warm beaches and big boats that bring in the fish. This is a not for profit event.
For this event we can expect to have fish flown in (FedEx) from Honolulu and San Diego. The fish from Honolulu will (probably) consist of large fillets of Big Eye tuna (Maguro), Tajiki (Blue Marlin), Tasmanian Salmon (butter from the sea), and Albacore or Yellowtail - all fresh. From San Diego expect fresh Uni (the best nature has ever tasted), Sweet Shrimp, Unagi, Tobiko, and a few other delicious items.
Appetizers will be served: Miso soup, Edamame, Seaweed Salad, Cucumber Salad.
There is a vegetarian/vegan option - please contact Nature/Doug for details.
Most of the veggies, the rice and other food items are organic.
Have something that you really love that isn’t in the above list? Let nature know!
Coffee and french toast will be served in the morning.
You can volunteer for a portion, or all of your food donation. Help is needed in preparing food, serving food, and rolling sushi. If you are sushi chef and willing to help out please let nature know.
Dishes - please be prepared to help do some dishes in the morning. We generate a bunch of them in one night. Also, a little help setting up and tearing down is appreciated.
Food donations are requested in advance. Please contact nature for an address if you wish to pay by check. For Paypal - paypal _(at)_lafarge.net. If you are not sure if you will attend contact nature and let him know. He’ll hold a few spots but please be sure to provide a few details as to why you are sitting the fence.
A limit of 50 might be placed on this event. It’ll depend on the interest as well as how much help nature can get at the sushi bar (he can’t do more than 30 by himself so he’ll need help).
There is a very good chance a second night of sushi will be offered on Sunday the 26th. No prepayment is required for this, however, if you are very interested in a second night please notify nature.
If you’ve never heard of SushiFest and would like to learn more log onto supertopo.com and search around for the various threads. To date there have been 14 formal SushiFest events.
And yes.... Brick.... I know.... YOU'RE IN!!!!1111169

Hey Nature,
I believe this date conflicts with the Yozemite facelift eh? Just a thought... We're planning to head to the lift, but if you moved this to October, we'd likely be IN!

Might be one in October as well.
I fully recognize it's during the Facelift.
Again, the 25th is National Public Lands Day - I think that's what inspired Ken to start the facelift. Jim worked with BLM last year on that day and is doing the same this year.

Yeah, this isn't at all meant to compete with the facelift. I'm hoping that maybe next year I can get back to the facelift with sushi.
All around the nation people are volunteering to help our Public Lands.
Jus' spreading the love....

Maybe some techno-geeks(the computer kind, not music kind) can figure out a way to do a satelite link-up between Facelift and IC SF...
Or else....maybe if we yell REAL LOUD.
Better idea - we make a plan to have a minute of "communal energy" on the 25th...maybe at 9pm? We FL'ers can send thought forms of fish tacos(or whatever we are having) to IC and you SushiMen can send us some though-hand rolls. mmmmm, I can taste them already!(Don't you be sneaking Uni into those thought rolls though!!!!)

I'm in! So is my girlfriend.
I won't be able to climb, so I'll help with Jim's project. And I'll bring local CO beer!
And a second night would be fun too.

Come one, come all if IC is an important climbing area for you. The BLM was super impressed with our efforts last year and ewe want to BLOW them away this year. Nature's Sushi Fest plus other fun and games to be announced later. We will do one day of work projects. Stewardship is the most important thing that climbers can do to protect the places where they play.

I'll be in, if I'm still alive that is. As you can see below, I'm not looking too good.
Anyway, I'm hopeful just not optimistic.
