Not trying to start any controversy over his climbing here; just a rememberance.
On July 13, 2007 Michael Reardon was killed when he was swept of the ledge he was standing on by a rogue wave while climbing a sea cliff on an Island off the coast of Ireland. He sent this picture in his last email to me on the 23 of June. When I asked what route that was, he replyed,"Gap of Dunloe, not sure what the name/rating is. Fun stuff, great sandstone with white quartz bands throughout." He was having a blast. If you never met/climbed with Reardon, you missed it. He was, IMOP, the real deal. More importantly, he was also my friend. I remember you.

I remember it well...I was with my Brother John Bachar, working on him at his house in Mammoth, Tyrus was punching the bag hanging in the living room, we were all just chillin', I think it was a Friday of all things and John got a call. I've never seen him so distraught, obviously he and Reardon were very close friends. I was speechless, how can you console someone in that state? My thoughts are with Marci today...and John and Michael.
Peace

all these souls just flinging about,
none of us are spectators we are all together, those departed and those still awaiting theirs.
the effort to achieve an understanding of this spiritual flow is quite exhausting and often a very sad endeavor.
plod onwards toward tomorrow until your tomorrow collapses into eternity.

It still gets me when I see a white Cherokee coming around the campground loop in Josh, or pulling into the parking lot at The Needles. I expect to see Michael jump out bursting with enthusiasm for the day about to unfold.
Three years? Seems like yesterday.
Best wishes to Marci and the girls.

Great picture of MR hanging it out Tony, thanks for sharing it. As far as controversy, most of Reardons detractors (and the rest of us as well) really weren't even good enough to carry the mans jockstrap....

Wow, hard to believe it's been that long already. I still have his business card in my rolodex here at the office. Though I originally met Michael thru climbing I got to know him alot better professionally during and after his time in law school. Since I've gotten out climbing so infrequently the past few years I haven't gotten the frequent reminders that he's not there those rare occasions I get out to Stoney. It really deferred the impact of him being gone.
Rest in peace Michael. You're still missed.

I still see him all the time. Malibu Creek, Stoney Point, The Needles, Joshua Tree, The Sierras, my climbing gym in the garage. You think the good times will go on forever...
I remember being up a couple of pitches somewhere on the North side of Tahquitz & Michael says to me 'This is so cool, I'm going to remember this forever.'
Keep your friends & loved ones close!

hey there say, TYeary.... thank you so very kindly for sharing a mention to your dear friend....
i remember this very sad time, when folks were still hoping that he may have somehow lived through this.... though, too sadly, too soon, it was learned that he had not... :(
god bless...

Nice pic Tom, thanks. I was in the process of putting together a program that Michael was going to do for me ( for free I might add; totally within charactor) when the unthinkable happened. Likewise with John. I had just had a C6- C7 fusion and John kindly nursed me through the post surgery fears about climbing ect..We were putting together a show as a part of his tour program at the time when again, the unthinkable happened. I no longer ask my friends to do shows for my club. I can't lose anymore. It is silly , but thats how I feel. Thanks for all the kind words on Michael and John's behalf. We all loved them like brothers and continue to miss them. Thanks for letting me share and vent.
