I turned down a potential $20,000 sponsorship because they wanted to promote bottled water. They were disappointed. I feel promoting bottled water is encouraging the wrong message. A lot of what we clean up is empty plastic water bottles. This will make it harder to finance the Facetift(Don't worry I will find the funds). I hope you feel the same and agree with me for holding my ground.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken: A great "long-run" decision.
Congrats for doing a good thing!
Rather than a complete ban on plastic bottles, I think there needs to be economic incentives to not use them.
Plastic throw-away bottles need to have deposit fees on them: just like returnable glass bottles.
I'm all for very-high deposit fees on plastic bottles.

Good decision, Ken - let's stick with the Klean Kanteen reusable bottles and that approach, like the YCA ones we got last year.
Mine is holding up fine.

hey there say, ol' chicken skinner, say... stand true to your self and for the park... i am with you, in prayers, too...
that is what canteens are for... say, old time folks, got by that way... we can too... :)
oh, a good thermos, too, will hold water... and these items, as costly, will surely be taken HOME where they belong, after a good hike, etc...
:)
praying for funds, now...
:)

Well I guess I need to be schooled by the 21 posters on this thread on the evils of bottled H20. In my two years of Facelift I've pro picked up maybe 4 empty water bottles. Mostly what I pick up are cigarette butts, and like fattrad and another poster said....juice straws and plastic bread closures...and alot of cellophane.
I buy a case of 1.5 liter bottles and reuse them over and over by filling them with Brita filtered H20 until the bottles are no longer usable. Then I recycle them.
We have horrible H2o here in the Valley Center area. So what else would I do ?
Why is bottled H20 wrong ? lynne

Good for you!
I work for the Park Service. At some meetings plastic water bottles are forbidden - only refillable! I'm currently attending training where there is a cooler full of those awful disposable things. Definitely not something we should be encouraging. (fortunately most people have their own bottle, except some of those travelling)
I, too, will pray for other sponsorship...
Lynne, buy a nalgene to fill with your Brita water, that's what I do!
