I'm headed off to Thailand tomorrow on a two week trip that isn't focused on climbing. I will be near Krabi though, and would love to get some climbing in if it's possible. Seeing as it's the rainy season right now, the weather forecast calls for thunderstorms pretty much every day.
Is it possible to climb at Krabi when it's raining?
Also are there good options for renting gear or should I bring my own?

Any recommendations on where to stay/rent gear? How much should I be looking to spend if I do rent?

Id say bring your own, when we were at Railay it was burning hot. When it rained the temps would drop and the crags were dry. So we would climb right away.

renting can be pricy. The cost of renting a set of really cheap quick draws for 4 days was about 1/4 of the cost of purchasing them new before we left. Bring plenty of real chalk, it is hard to find the good stuff on the beach. The rental ropes can stink like a locker room.
There is climbing in the rain but even during the first monsoon, it rains almost every day but not for long. Maybe once a week it soaks down harder and stays wet the whole day.
The seas are a little rougher and sometimes you can't get a longtail onto Ton Sai. There crowds are less and the jungle is more alive with orchids and creepy crawlies. (beware the leeches) The deep water soloing isn't done as much when the seas are high.
An umbrella sounds ridiculuous but it nice to have. Bring a small dry bag (or two)
Have FUN! and don't stand underneath any cocunut trees during a storm....

Although there's plenty to keep you occupied in Thailand for a couple of weeks, I'd say if you're going to make an effort to go to Krabi, then bring some gear--at least a harness, slippers and a few draws. I was near there in the early 90s before the place exploded and kind of regret not checking it out. Now mind you, I had an awesome time just touring Bangkok and then hanging out on Koh Samui (though I wish I would have hit Chiang Mai--where they've since developed some areas), but the climbing just looks so fun it's probably worth checking out for even a day or two if you're in the neighborhood. Have fun!

Looks like I'll be tossing the gear into my bag. It's a short trip and I can suck up carrying it around a little bit.

Dry bag for sure, small one to keep money, and things dry......
Besides that the rain is 90 degrees and you just walk thu it.....
Plenty to climb in the rain......
Bring heaps of chalk.....and a small paint brush to wipe the sand off your feet before putting on your shoes..........
