With all the polemics between the right and left in this country, there are three terms that have lost meaning and significant impact in discourse: genocide, treason and fascism. These are important terms that have a precise meaning and should be used correctly. When not used so, they become vacuous. They also denote the user as careless and/or ignorant. Both sides--right and left--are guilty. Sloppy usage negates the desired impact of what's stated. If you want to be taken seriously in debate or opinion, at least use the language in a manner that doesn't define you as an ignorant twit.

"Both sides--right and left--are guilty."

Pleased to see "our" side is not mentioned.

Yep, the Democrats and Republics are guilty of poor word usage so often, the words lose all meaning. Basically what the establishment wants.

How about a working definition of fascism? I agree with Woody that would be useful.

There are elements of both left and right ideology in the development of Fascism, but it generally attracts political support from right-wing and ultra-conservative movements and electoral parties.

-exalts the nation and party above the individual
-stresses loyalty to a single leader, and submission to a single nationalistic culture
-engages in economic intervention through the creation of a Corporatist State
