Russ's very own birth certificate reads: Russel Cornelius Walling lll. His Great Uncle from Scotland, Russelford Claudius Cornelius Walling, was a mountaineer of some repute, and was also a Master Sergeant under Whitehead in the Crimea.

More later . . .

There's a climber up here who is named Cornelius, but he's mostly known as Connie. Which maybe confuses a few.

It seems mostly Americans that go in for the "Junior" and "IIs" and "IIIs" - it's quite uncommon here.

What fun - a middle name thread, or perhaps a name disclosure thread. My middle name is Ivar, which is a traditional family name. In Norway, if you have a middle name, it's generally used in ordinary conversation. Given that families tend to use certain names frequently, it helps distinguish who's who. For example, Knut is a common name in my extended family - so the custom is that if you name a boy Knut, you have to give him a middle name, so everyone knows which one you mean.

Largo!
Nice! It isn't just that middle names are interesting, the tastier part is that this is something about the FISH, that he would absolutely never under pain even, divulge.
He would tell you how he broke his thumb ridin' Bulls,
but
Cornelius ?
" no way "

For a while there we were calling Russ "Corny," but it wasn't particularly well received.

Feckin' Cornelius?
Oh man, that's rich!
I think we should all call him that from now on.

So, what's up Cornelius?

Please tell us that he is also related to Rittner (Wanted: strong backs and weak minds) Walling.

Ooh, are you gonna take that Russ?

Perhaps there is something you have withheld about Largo that would be appropriate to share?

The Porter brothers, in their earlier years, had a baby sitter named Cornelius. She was famous for playing card games and having to hold the cards an inch in front of her eyes to make the card out. Our nickname for her was Corndog !

Thanks for sharing Largo, makes the Fish sound like he's regal and pedigreed.
Cheers Russ!

Either this thread is bait for the (much-missed) Fish, or we're all going to be sleeping with the fishes.

Largo,

I will always remember the hilarious scene from the climbing instructional video you put together "How to Lead" (I think that is the title?) with Ron Kauk (with ever present toothpick), Russ Walling et al.

Most hilarious scene was where you were cranking on Russ's nostrils with a crow-bar. He-he, what a hoot.

Perhaps that technique is needed here again today. Where's the crow-bar when you need one?

I'm sure Cornelius is gonna show up sometime soon.

Crow-bar. . . Crow-bar people! . . . We need a crow-bar!

Wasn't Cornelius one of the Orang -utans in planet of the apes?

Crimea, eh? So maybe that's how he came upon that soviet submarine bunk that he's using as a portaledge in that photo!

I stand corrected, still chimps often have sort of auburn hair.
