As far as I know, nobody stepped up to compile all the fallen into one list as in years past.

So maybe this year we can do it a little different.

There were so many important passings this year, we can add the ones that meant the most to us personally, add photos and otherwise personalize our 2009 Memorial.

I'll start off honoring my good friend John Evans with a photo and a link to his thread.

Rest In Peace John. http://www.supertopo.com/climbing/thread.php?topic_id=846932&msg=898056#msg898056

A good friend to many here, Ishun Chan. Rest in peace.

Ishun and I after a route in the Valley.

Always up for an adventure, I had the pleasure of taking many trips with her. She loved the camaraderie of climbers as much as she loved climbing itself.

I didn't realize how many different people she had climbed with until her memorial. Lots of buddies.

Thanks Blue. Hopefully, a few of our friends that have lost a friend or partner will add a little tribute.

Thanks you guys.

Mike. Yeah, I thought of that, but it's coming right up, and the ones who have already left us won't be any more gone on Jan 1st. So I decided that this was the moment, at least for me.

Locker, feel free to add about Woody.
You all can do the same.

I'm a bit ashamed to have lost sight of Woody's and Brutus' deaths....

bad year. I've lost a lot of taste for climbing this year. It showed in my recent trip to Josh for Thanksgiving. I just wanted to hang and follow routes. Normally I'd be ashamed of myself, but with all the sorrow this year coupled with my 1.5 year old son's first trip to Josh, I had to just sit back and watch the new guys blow their minds on what is the amazement of Josh.

I had a good time all the same. And that's what my good friend Ishun loved too. The camaraderie of being there and participating...

I'll get over, I'm sure, but sometimes you gotta go with your feelings.

Ahhhh, I'm so sensitive.

....whatever. I listen to my head.

EDIT: If your buddy was USAF Pararescue, he must have been an ultra-badass. I've been reading about what these guys do recently in Afghanistan.

Very honorable job!!!! These are the f*#kers who go in and rescue downed pilots BEHIND ENEMY LINES!!!

I can't say how much I respect people like this. Selfless comes to mind.

Survival, you may know this kinda scene;
http://www.michaelyon-online.com/pedros.htm

They call themselves Pedros in Afghanistan, but their motto seemed familiar to me after you posted that emblem in the OP, "So that others may live"

These guys get it done!!!! Badass!!!!!

this is a repost. that's ok isn't it, in this context? this is how i found you guys, searching on rob's name after his wreck. mojede made note of his passing. rob really had a lot more to give, held a wide network of friends in his spell, and gave life a damn good run. the image he burned in our memories will be long time vivid sweet stuff.

in february this year, the cold smoking arc of my fast moving friend, rob hart, ended very sadly, at distance from a tree.

at a high camp in the enchantments, the whole crew coveting my slinglite chair inspired him to build a business around an idea he hatched while leading for outward bound. he named it for the creek that tumbles off of beartooth plateau to water the valley that harbors his family's ranch. perhaps you've nested your bum in a crazy creek chair.

his zesty, generous laugh will rise from the river, echo within the canyon, and be rekindled where it flourished, alongside his branch of the yellowstone

Good memories, hooblie. God bless!

Wow! Almost makes you wonder if all these dudes are looking back at us laughing, saying, "we're fine guys, keep living, we'll see you all again!"

The mind puzzles around this stuff....live on!

Jim, do you have a picture of Curt?

Ed, nice. What an understated picture of John. Strangely appropriate.

Blue, you're right, John was Badass for sure. A Welshman, he was "old" when he joined Pararescue. A very strong climber and Denali guide as well.
He was one of my very first students at the Global Survival School.

I dont' know why, exactly, since I didn't know him except on ST, but Woody's death really hammered me. Curt I was prepared for. I feel lucky to have known him here. Brutus, I can't get a handle on it. It slides away from me. It catches me unawares, unready, at times....

Rest in peace y'all,

Zander

It's really hard when it seems the best of us are taken away; John Bachar, Woody Stark, John Evans...

It makes you wonder if there's a purpose to it all. Some struggle with this dilemma. I don't. They were plucked from us for a reason. We'll find out why in time.

I hear ya, Zander, Woody was a blow! My friend Ishun was too though. Just came from nowhere.

I know exactly what you mean!!!! For some reason, Woody's was harsh though.

That cranky old man is laughing now though, probably talking conservative politics with St John, driving him crazy!!!

Woody is the one one guy I miss as much as my buddy Ishun...and I never even met Woody! That's sayin' a lot too! Ishun was a regular partner of mine.

Just a horrible year.....

EDIT:

It was Survival's intention of having y'all post pics of these friends of ours.

This was a kind of personal pictorial tribute to our buds....post up!!!!
