Yep, another damn climbing thread.
I've only been down to the Dragoons in the spring when the Rockfellow group was always closed. We might try a trip this fall.
I looked up the Oct. and Nov. temperatures for Bisbee (nice), and I have two questions. First, how much cooler is Cochise than Bisbee. Second, how windy is the fall?
The Rockfellow climbs are a main reason for the trip, so I don't want to freeze or be blown clear out of the state like I was one spring.

I was there last january and the temps and rock conditions were in prime form. One of the best things about cochise is that there are no rangers to hassle you. Cochise is sick!! I highly recommend this fine location even if you have to hike a ways to get to the rockafellas, it is totally worth it.

It's been years since I was there. I'm looking forward to getting back.
We did have some serious wind. The worse rope drag I've ever had was climbing one of those chickenhead slabs on a howling day.

It's getting to be prime-time for Cochise. Temps have been kinda high recently, but another couple of weeks should be ideal. Wind you can get on any day -- it's not dependent on season. We usually go in the fall and I've had days when it was calm and others when it was whipping. Temps have never been a factor, warm or cold, that time of year.

Yeah, that's what I wanted to hear. Actually, I wanted to hear that it was calmer in the fall than spring, but wind is what is. This will be fun.

To answer your first question...Bisbee is usually around 10 deg F cooler than the Stronghold. The temps right now in the Stronghold are probably in the low to mid 90's. I'd wait a couple more weeks then it will be prime season.

Oh. I was thinking that Bisbee ran warmer not cooler. Thanks for setting me straight.
Looks like we might go the end of October.

It could be a little cold by then, but that's coming from a Tucsonan. Probably just right for anyone from a normal climate. Right now, if you stay in the shade, the Rockfellows make for some great climbing. Especially in the morning.
