Jesus is playing his 2nd-coming really low-key. Right now, he's working as a dishwasher at the local Denny's, sizing things up and deciding who to smite.

Trivia: I read somewhere the "eye of the needle" was a small gate in a walled city (Jeruselem?), and camels could only pass through by going down on their knees.

Rolling Stones » I Just Want To See His Face Lyrics
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)
That's all right, that's all right, that's all right.
Sometimes you feel like trouble, sometimes you feel down.
Let this music relax you mind, let this music relax you mind.
Stand up and be counted, can't get a witness.
Sometimes you need somebody, if you have somebody to love.
Sometimes you ain't got nobody and you want somebody to love.
Then you don't want to walk and talk about Jesus,
You just want to see His face.
You don't want to walk and talk about Jesus,
You just want to see His face.

"Trivia: I read somewhere the "eye of the needle" was a small gate in a walled city (Jeruselem?), and camels could only pass through by going down on their knees."
Tom, I've read the same, and similar things. I don't buy it, though. Jesus made it clear that we are all unrighteous, so it's impossible for anyone to enter the kingdom of heaven on their own. The quote in Pate's post (which I rather liked, since the cartoon Jesus doesn't look like a milquetoast (no offense intended, DMT), but someone capable of anger and power) is followed by words to the following effect: They asked "Then who can be saved?" Jesus replied "It is not possible with man, but with God, all things are possible." (Please don't expect this to be verbatim. I'm several miles form my Bible.)
The point, again, was that even the rich can't buy a stairway to heaven. Jesus and the New Testament both did not condemn money, but rather the love of money.

Hey guys?
Can I please make a request? Could you either please knock it off, or find somewhere else to mock Jesus?
Like, enough is enough, eh? I and others here are in fact Believers. We're not holier-than-thou in-your-face jerks, we're not "preachy", we're just regular guys and girls, we just happen to believe that Jesus is cool.
We don't go ramming Jesus down your throats making posts we know you would find offensive, so why do you have to ram your anti-Jesus sentiments down ours? Now I do believe in freedom of expression, and maybe you think it's funny and all, and that's cool if you find it amusing. But there has been rather too much of it lately.
But does it really belong in a climbing forum?
Respectfully,
Pete [a Basic Bb Believer]
P.S. I don't find much offense in mocking Christians, because there are a few bad apples in every bunch, maybe more than a few. But not Jesus. Not cool.
Thank you for reading.

Yeah I agree.
They sure would find it offensive if someone photo shopped pictures of their mother.
They'd be foaming and frothing in the mouth with threats to kill you.

In fairness to d-know, the drawing of Jesus he posts might be less off the mark than the "traditional" blue-eyed dude your great-grandmother hung on her wall, although I doubt he looked so African. Most likely he looked like a bit of a "habeily" - olive skin, kinda the Arab-Jewish look, dark hair, and brown eyes.
It's interesting in the bible that, so far as I am aware, there is not a single reference ANYWHERE to anyone's appearance. Anyone know if there is? They never described how Jesus looked, nor Herod, nor David, nor Solomon, nor any of those dudes. They talked about Goliath as being a great big bastard, and David as being a scrawny little bugger by comparison, but that's all that comes to mind.

Pate,
You write that you do not intend to mock or show disrespect, and in the next breath do precisely that. Jesus is not a "thing" - any more than you are - nor is he "funny". If you believe him to be "funny", please cite your historical reference. [I cannot deny that there are those who do "funny" things which they purport to do in his name].
But as stated above, there are those of us who believe otherwise, and this really isn't benefitting anyone nor adding anything positive to a climbing, or climbers', forum. Please, Pate - enough is enough, ok? Can we please just leave it?

I don't know Pete. This could be a slippery slope. Next thing we know you'll be asking us not to mock Steven Harper. Come on. If Jesus is who some think he is, he surely won't care if a few pissants piss a bit.
Remember that poor Danish cartoonist who dared cast Muhammed in a funny light? Had to go into hiding from all the "holy death seekers".

I don't know what an acceptable level of mocking is for any religion. Although I know if you told someone there was only one god and they believed differently you would basically be telling them they are wrong and mocking their religion. You could say its not their fault they are "wrong" they just didn't know any better but I think thats even worst. I think you could find a passage in the bible or in religious texts somewhere that will agree with anything you can think of, thats what happens when you write thousands of pages.
I think Jesus is funny, because and religion without humor is dead. It'll be all angst. I would also like to have the ability to laugh at myself and allow others to laugh at me without it effecting me deeply and I'm about the thickness of the planet away from being omnipotent.
It goes on and on, I am not trying to be confrontational either, its a debate I actually have regularly. My girlfriend is Catholic, I belong to no religion but I respect her so I don't attack or deny her beliefs. It just doesn't make any sense to me, so I decided to cancel my subscription to Christianity.
I also think that climbing and religion often go hand in hand. Especially for those of us who don't have connections to the major religions. What I feel I connect myself most with is being outside. I don't get that same feeling anywhere. If I had a church it would be hanging in my harness in Zion or sitting in the valley in Hatcher Pass. That being said I discuss religion every time I post on this board.
I'd also like to note that I am not trying to attack anyone here. If it seems that way then please chock it up to me being unable to correctly voice my opinions through the internet.
