A pebble without a suitor is just a bump upon the beach. Who loves ya, baby?!? De Largo do...Climbing October 1986.

I recall this article. It sparked a renaissance of fine literature in rock climbing mags (for a while).

Isn't it amazing how one "pebble" can inspire such words. Is it the pebble or the writer?
Largo is that good :-))
How is the pebble these days? Thinner? Smaller? Anyone know the answer? Please speak up. I went there many years ago with my wife on the way to the J Paul Getty Italian Riviera like Museum. Very fun.

Still there, still sandy and damp and subject to the tides. I drive by it far more than actually getting a chance to climb, but that's probably for lack of planning. Maybe I'll stick my shoes in the car and leave them there for the next time I'm swinging up PCH.

Hmmm... a pentagon may get the religious nuts, the conspiracy nuts and others frothing. Isn't a pentagon considered satanic or the sign of the new world order or something? Not counting the one in WDC, that is.

I'd never read this before.... what a beautiful story. I especially like the connection to Odysseus and Polyphemus. Part of how Odyseus tricks the cyclops is by telling him his name is No one" or "Nobody" (houtos in ancient Greek if I'm remember correctly). This is an early tale of the Odyssey and at that point, Odysseus' identity is still unformed. He's kind of an arogant punk with an attitude at that point. But, with much time and experience, he grows and deepens and becomes a man. Not unlike some characters that may be familiar around here!

Hard to believe I ever wrote such silly, overwrought shite. Sort of funny, though . . .
